Personally I think we should go to war as a nation like we did in WWI and WWII. Nearly every single person was somehow involved in the war effort in some way and it left very little room for protest.
One odd thing about this article. It mentioned Abu Gharaib as an example of escalating terrorism. Doesn't this author know that the only mentions of Abu Gharaib are supposed to remind us of our EVIL soldiers and what they do to poor, innocent Iraqi prisoners?
Good article. I've been really disappointed by the left in the last few years. I understand they don't like Republicans -- and that's okay. But nevertheless we're got real enemies out there who really want to kill us, and the left could choose to play a constructive role as a "loyal opposition" to help us win this war better. But that's not what they've chosen.
Mr. Hapke is partly right.
The Constitution guarantees Americans to right to disagree with government policies and voice their disagreement. Even to the point of organizing peaceful protests against the policy.
However, it's one thing to say that a policy is bad, but it's another to say that the decision to go to war was based on lies or that the soldiers are supporting an evil cause. And that's where so many leftists cross the line.
Also, while the soldiers are there, the citizenship should support them until their mission is complete. There will be plenty of time later to analyze the consequences of the war.
Leftists are working together with Islamists to defeat their common enemy, the United States. Our enemy is not their enemy. Leftists are loyal members of the Axis of Evil.
I know the "total war" approach of WWI or WWII is appealing, but we can't sustain that level of spending for more than a few year. And I think this particular war requires very long-term expenditures.
Good posters. I wish we still made propaganda posters -- I like some of the examples I've seen from past conflicts.
So,.... enlarge them and use them at the next FREEP da CREEPS you go to.
Good post, Mr. Hapke makes a very good point. Unfortunately, most of the Dems are more interested in reelection than bonding together and making the all out effort for a decisive victory.
Diana Irey's statement is right on.
"Good article. I've been really disappointed by the left in the last few years. I understand they don't like Republicans -- and that's okay. The could easily win elections if they were reasonable on most issues. They're becoming more and more like SF representives...totally insane.
But if you see getting back into power as your only objective, and don't care for the consequences for this country or for millions of Iraqis, then you do something entirely opposite.
"They would have forgotten the first law of Crew Resource Management: we are all in this together."
They cannot build a great nation they can only prosper once the building has been done. They are parasites. They pop up anywhere success happens and they replace successful philosophy with their own 'immutable goodness'. They are stupid, they are Evil and they are why great nations always fall.
They are why America will fall. Many of their most pernicious stupidities and lies are today mouthed even by many conservatives.
I was there when she said it, it was stunning. She spoke from her heart. She understands what's at stake. As do you and I. :)
