Lou Dobbs Tonight
Live from Washington, DC
Friday, April 7, 2006
The devil is indeed in the details. Less than a day after
Republican and Democratic Senators took turns in front of
television cameras congratulating themselves and their esteemed colleagues for reaching a compromise on illegal immigration reform, their bill hit a major roadblock and has stalled.
Senate Republicans revolted when Democrats attempted to
suppress amendments on the legislation. The Senate will not
vote on illegal immigration reform until after the Easter
recess, if ever.
Senator John Cornyn of Texas joins Lou to discuss why the
compromise agreement failed and what that failure means for the prospect of passing major legislative reform on border security and illegal immigration.
And what is the cost of immigration reform? Senator Jeff
Sessions of Alabama is calling for a Congressional Budget
Office review of the cost of implementing amnesty programs.
Some have estimated that cost to be as high as $40 billion.
Well have that report.
Throughout the country, millions of protesters are gearing up for anti-Sensenbrenner legislation marches. Rep. Jim
Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin talks to Lou tonight.
And Lou will be talking with our political roundtable CNN senior political analyst Bill Schneider, former White House political director Ed Rollins, WOL radio talk show host Joe Madison, and New York Daily News Michael Goodwin for a wrap-up of the weeks top stories.
