Easter = "annual spring egg hunt" in NH
Milford Cabinet (NH) ^ | April 6. 2006

Posted on 04/07/2006 5:31:53 AM PDT by seamusnh

The PC movement has run amok and is now infecting NH. The town of Milford won't use the term "Easter" for the Easter egg hunt, and have chosen the term "annual spring egg hunt"...

The highlights:

Easter eggs? Not in Milford Rec commission's hunt will bear secular name 'spring' By Daymond Steer - Cabinet staff

The Cabinet - April 6, 2006

MILFORD — Conventional wisdom says if it hops like a bunny, it’s probably a bunny, but the town’s Recreation Department has decided that when it invites children to collect brightly colored plastic eggs the day before Easter, the event will be called an “annual spring egg hunt.”

“One person said we’d offend someone if we call it an Easter egg hunt, that’s all it took,” Selectman Larry Pickett said. “They can call it whatever they want, but I was for Easter egg hunt.”

The decision makes Milford the only town in the region to avoid the word “Easter” in the description of its egg hunt. Lyndeborough, Amherst, Mont Vernon and Merrimack have all scheduled hunts and will call them by their traditional name....

The hunt is “not a religious event or anything,” said Recreation Director Nicole Banks. “We’re opening up a little bit.”

As a Christian, I have to say "what's taken so long", Easter is not about bunnies or eggs.

If it's about kids then leave my religion out of it.

The simple thing to do is to push for a withdrawal of all public support for the event and put the time and money of the citizens into support private, religious activities.

If the PC twits want to Balkanize the town, let them.

Eastre was a Germanic fertility goddess, whose symbol was the rabbit.

When Christians go to church on Easter Sunday, none of them offer prayers to a German goddess, they come to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and savior.

Then why is it called "Easter"? There is a nastly little historical reality that most "Christians" never own up to. Namely, "What happened to Passover, and what does Easter have to do with the Bible"?

Can you say syncretism?

I agree with you, the name of the day is not what matters, and as a Christian holiday, it doesn't really have much to do with bunnies and eggs, pagan fertility symbols. So if the pagan people of New Hampshire want to celebrate a pagan fertility ritual, and not call it by the name of a Christian holiday, I say, let 'em.

Why it's called Easter is not important, it is globally recognized as a Christian holiday.

Why do you have the word Christians in quotes? Do you have contempt for us?

ABSOLUTELY agree. I think it's pretty safe to assume that God will one day have a few things to say about our "Christianized" pagan holidays.
