WASHINGTON Sen. Wayne Allard and Sen. John Kerry had a televised, verbal skirmish over Iraq war policy today, blasting each other in back-and-forth speeches.
Allard, R-Loveland, took to the Senate floor to defend President Bush's Iraq policy in the wake of Kerry's recent call for a dramatic shift of policy and accelerated pull-out of U.S. troops.
"I've been very supportive of the president (on) Iraq because he has had a plan and he has stayed the course," Allard said. "Even though the political winds have been twirling around out there, he has been able to ignore those and move forward."
"What we see today in the criticism of the president from Sen. Kerry, we've seen an individual being spun in the political winds, unlike the president," Allard said.
That drew an angry response from Kerry, D-Mass., a Vietnam War veteran and former Democratic presidential contender.
Frequently referring to Allard as "the senator from Colorado," Kerry said, "Anyone who wants to come to the floor and pretend it's working today is living in a fantasy land."
At one point, referring to Allard, Kerry asked: "Is it OK with him that young Americans are dying" while Iraq struggles to get a new government in place.
Kerry said military leaders, including Gen. George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, have told him that the large presence of U.S. troops is actually adding to the unrest.
"I'm listening to Gen. Casey, not the senator from Colorado," Kerry said.
The unscheduled Iraq war debate filled the time on the senate broadcast channel, C-SPAN 2, while senate leaders worked behind the scenes to finalize details of a proposed compromise on a pending immigration reform bill.
Allard has been one of Bush's most ardent supporters on Iraq war policy and other issues.
He said Kerry's call for removing troops from Iraq a "catastrophic suggestion" and pointed out that in the run-up to the 2004 elections Kerry had said a premature troop pull-out would be a disastrous betrayal of principles.
"You can't deny the fact that this president truly wants to see democracy survive in Iraq," Allard said. "He does have a plan, and he's sticking to that plan."
Kerry is a Viet Nam vet?
Who knew?
This must have been Recycle Kerry day, I've seen him on just about every station.
More from Traitor Kerry:

hanoi kerry, continues to spew his hate for our troops and America
This is the very definition of a clueless cyclist: riding in traffic with no helmet, talking on a cell phone. Not to mention all that red and yellow matching stuff.
But his hair is perfect.

name one, single, solitary bill that John Kerry had authored and passed...in twenty years...
Maybe he's making his move on Cindy Sheehan. She seems to have deep pockets these days. Gotta lock in that moonbat anti-everything bloc that Hillary can't win over. Even the kooks think Algore is kookoo, so that leaves the coffin lid unlocked for Kount Kerry.
I'm glad to hear that my Senator stuck it to sKerry the Traitor. I hope he suddenly gets a clue about the border and illegal alien issues.
Wait, are you sure about that? I didn't know.

Tonk, refresh my memory , but was it not too long ago Hanoi Johnny was screaming about not enough troops in Iraq on the ground? Was that not the commies' , I mean the Democrats' , talking point maybe 4 or 5 months ago?
"Kerry said military leaders, including Gen. George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, have told him that the large presence of U.S. troops is actually adding to the unrest. "
So Kerry was for having more troops in Iraq before he was against it? How unlike him.
