WASHINGTON - Putting aside party differences, Senate Republicans and Democrats coalesced Thursday around compromise legislation that holds out the hope of citizenship to an estimated 11 million immigrants living in the United States unlawfully.

"We can no longer afford to delay reform," said Republican Sens. John McCain and Edward M. Kennedy in a statement that capped weeks of struggle to find common ground. [TRANSLATION: Amnesty and a path to citizenship for 11 million illegal aliens]

I'm going to start calling and emailing tomorrow morning. Probably won't do any good because there's hardly a patriot among them. I'm through with the Republican party. Can't wait until they call asking for contributions. Need to clean house of these RINOs by not voting for them anymore. They're just a bunch of liars and unworthy of the power we gave them. I'll either sit out the next election or vote for a third party candidate, even though they don't stand a chance. I am really disgusted!

Watching C-Span right now, and Senator Frist says the bill is blocked. He said it is "tragic". No it is not.

The Prez did not sponsor this particular bill. This is above and beyond the vision he had laid out for guest workers.

Call them - let them hear the anger in your voice. Then do it again.

The GOP deserves to lose its Senate majority JUST for this. Oh I know, the Democrats are far worse but the GOP can't be trusted to defend America's heritage from within.

Nope. It might be dead. Senator Frist is talking about it on C-Span right now.

I don't think so, but remember: they do their best work in the dead of night, when nobody's watching.

He may not be A sponsor, but he's cheering them on!

If you think he's going to veto this, you're naive beyond description.

I used to defend him like you do. Then he got re-elected.

His number one priority is eliminating our borders. Why, I have no idea, but there it is.

The Victory Fund financial cofounded by David Mixner.

Page 25 specifically says The Gay & Lesbian Fund provides financial support to openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender candidates and officials.

The IRV Victory Fund
The Vision
As recent events have shown, instant runoff voting (IRV) is gaining traction nationwide. On the heels of San Francisco's city-wide IRV elections, hailed universally as well-understood by the electorate (and much preferred to the old system), other cities have begun to follow the trend. In March, Burlington, Vt. became the first major city in more than 30 years to use IRV for a mayoral election, and the positive results bode well for the possibility of this good-government reform to spread statewide.

As passionate electoral reformers who believe in the people's power to protect our country's democratic health, the challenge is presenting these victories as part of what they truly are -- a nationwide movement. In that spirit, FairVote is launching the IRV Victory Fund, which aims to unify local efforts by aiding those campaigns where the promise of success is greatest.

Fueling a National Movement.
The Victory Fund pledges at least 50 cents for every dollar it collects to be directed to the local campaign where it will count the most. Though the eventual goal of IRV should be to ensure the principle of majority rule is honored everywhere, and used for all executive offices, right now the reformer's strategy must focus on city and state campaigns. Of course, FairVote will continue to produce educational and campaign materials for national use.

The Fund will operate with complete transparency in periodic reports as to how these campaign-focused donations are spent. That's just another prerequisite for establishing an IRV campaign in which all its participants can feel involved.

A Vehicle for Endorsements
From Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama, to DNC Chairman Howard Dean, big names are lining up behind instant runoff voting as it gains momentum. The Victory Fund serves as a focus point for prominent figures, and provides a basis to campaign for endorsements from other supporters of fair elections. Seeking these endorsements will be central to the Victory Fund's operation.

I just got this e-mail:

If you have not yet registered as a Border Watcher with MMP, please call me ASAP so we can get you cleared to go down there. - Jeff Schwilk, 760-525-1655

I just talked to Stew at Campo a few minutes ago and the fence jumpers are lining up at the fence right now in broad daylight. Apparently word has already spread throughout Mexico today and they know all about the U.S. Senate agreeing on Amnesty. Our Minutemen down there right now have their hands full trying to stop the flood. They could use some extra help, on both weekdays and weekends.

The stupid Senate is going to cause a stampede across the border!

And why not. With this new voter base, the politicians don't need our votes anymore.

We haven't lost control of our borders, we've lost control of those responsible for controlling our borders.

That's the best quote I've heard in quite a while.

We have a window now where taking difficult action can save our economy from potentially fatal damage, and Congress is refusing to act. Because it's difficult.

Another misleading headline...not the first today.

'Congress' hasn't united for an 'illegal immigrant deal'.

Leftists and RINOs in the Senate have.

But the House bill is enforcement-only.

Last time I checked they were one-half of the Congress.

I agree. And that's what irks me most about this whole deal.

Republicans are supposed to be the defenders of this country. At least thats the bill of goods they sold us and sell us every election.

I won't vote for another one. And the "then you'll elect a democrat" arguement won't work on me anymore. I really don't care. I KNOW the Dems will stab us in the back.

Repubs are supposed to be more honorable. ROFL!
