I agree. How many "top aides" are there? It's getting silly.Only to those not following even the most basic details.

See my post #38 as to why if this is true then it is a big deal. The guy was big in the Saddam regime. He was chief of Intel. A deck of 55 card player.
The Baathist insurgents would just have lost a key player. And surely he will sqeal his guts out like the rest of them, once the "surfs up" sign comes out. And surely he was in the key area where the Butchers boys still play. He would have been a financer as well as a key facilitator for the insurgency.

Let's see - the basic details would be "top aide captured". That's pretty basic, isn't it?

From Bloomberg.com article.
"Muhammed Hila Hammad Ubaydi led the Secret Islamic Army in the north of Babil province, the military said in a statement e- mailed from the Iraqi capital. He served as Chief of Staff of Intelligence during Saddam Hussein's regime."

The worst job in Iraq would be either number 2 or an aide.
Imagine this conversation:
There is good news for you Ahab - you are now the number 2 of the movement.
No thank you - I am fine where I am.

It is very good news for people in Iraq.
Maybe not so important to the folks back home sweating over things like who gets kicked off of the next episode of "Survivor," perhaps.

No photo available on the 2 of hearts.

Another SECOND in command? :)
This is becoming funny.

I was wrong.
Ubaydi was not quite so high up to fit into the deck of 55. His boss however, Zuhayr Talib Abd al-Sattar, director of military intelligence, was.
Just want to set the record straight.

I agree. How many "top aides" are there? It's getting silly. Probably when one is caught, someone else is promoted. I kind of doubt Zarqawi has a Family Medical/Capture Leave Act that requires him to keep the job open for six months or whatever! ;-)

I've never watched Survivor.
Of course it's always good news when another terrorist is caught. But to keep calling all of them "top aides" gets where it doesn't mean much any more.

Lucky they aren't in France! He could never fire a top aide. LOL

If you read the article carefully you will find this guy was Saddam's chief of Intellegience. He has been a key player in the insurgency. He helped plan it in the closing days of the war when the 3rd Armored Divison tanks rolled into Baggy dad. He is a big fish, whom will deliver much information over a period of time to save his hide, as how the insurgency is now operating. Plus, he was most likely a key finiancer from the Baathist part of the insurgency.

Thank you Marine_Uncle for providing the additional info.
People don't understand the value of this catch.

"...without having egg on their face?"
Heheh. With a lot of sloppy sloppy words. Clowns may try to avoid saying anything. Or at most a three second blip ...in other news today a known aid to Abu the Schmoo was allegedly caught on the outskirts of Baggy Dad. Such is life.
