Hello fellow Mass GOP member! I'm doing it. I've thought about it and I will be leaving the Republican party if this nonessential bill is passed. I joined the Republicans when I was 18 years old and no party I'd ever consider being a member of would support this.

I just don't understand it. All the talk radio hosts and their callers are mad as he!! over this amnesty the GOP Senators seem intent on pushing through. Rush said he has heard the faxes, emails, and calls to our politicians are similar to the ports deal - overwhelmingly against what is being proposed. And on these threads, there are only a handful of people for amnesty.

Yet, we are all being ignored and the GOP is committing particide. How can they be so clueless?

Rush will change sides within the next week or so. The Whitehouse will strongly suggest that he reconsider and the next day he will come out with a "Bush is taking an issue away from Democrats" explanation.

They think the GOP base will stew and vote for them anyway because Democrats are worse. Therefore why possibly alienate their business interests, which fund their campaigns, or risk being labeled a bigot.

That is the thinking. Remains to be seen if they are right about the GOP base.

IF the GOP was offering something to offset amnesty, maybe the thinking would be valid. But tax cuts being renewed is in limbo. ANWR canceled. Spending increases. Judges filibustered. Concessions to terrorists via McCain. Restrictions on free speech okay'd in the House just yesterday.

What are they offering the GOP base in return for taking the pill of amnesty? Nothing. nothing except "Dems are worse" and the "prez will be impeached". It's not good enough. Without an incentive TO vote FOR Reps, IMO, the GOP will be unpleasantly surprised in Nov.

I don't get it my friend...I am totally flabbergasted ( and I do not flabergast easily ).
Do the Republicans think that they are competing for the future votes of these people? This makes no sense at all.
Passing this will alienate unknown numbers of registered Republicans, independent conservatives and moderates. Polls consistently state that overwhelming numbers of Hispanic Americans who vote are against amnesty.
Pass this bill and the air goes out of the party.
Have they thought for one moment the billions of dollars it will cost to shovel out the benefits to the 13 million illegals who have all been here for 5 years ? (and they have all been here for five years of course.) The drain on the Social Security system alone staggers the imagination.
What about the countless numbers of people who will be encouraged to come to America as quickly as possible to be included in ' the 5 year plan '?
None of this makes sense at all.
