Clearly, the seante compromise is a sell out.

I am praying one of our GOOD senator's will stage a true filibuster to stop the midnight vote... ala Mr. Smith Goes To Washington.

I am thinking Senator's Kyl and Cronyn.

"Clearly"?! Come on - your side got HR 4437 and ours gets the Senate bill - maybe if the Conference Committee goes completely with the Senate version, then you can claim a "sell out".

ala Mr. Smith Goes To Washington.

How about Jesse Helms goes to Washington? I am dating myself, but many years ago Congress wanted a 5 cent raise in the gasoline tax. Of course, Congress was frothing at the bit to get the money.

Senator Helms, lone voice in the Senate, tried to filibuster and he was portrayed aa buffon. A Southern Buffoon at that!

Not relevant, but your post made me think of it.

Is a Mr. Smith goes to Washington even possible anymore?

Frankly, I can't think of anyone in the senate who would have the courage.

But if a Kyl or Cornyn did, they'd have campaign workers and supporters for a lifetime, and would probably make it to the presidency if they ran. They'd be smart to consider it.
