many mistakenly confuse ruthlessness with cruelty.

they are not the same.

cruelty is brutality for the sake of brutality.

ruthlessness is the use of brutality *to get a necessary task completed*... without factoring mercy into consideration.

I remember when Ayatollah Khomeini went back to Iran. I was sure that was the start (or at least the intensification) of something big and it would be nothing but trouble. I was amazed at some of the talking heads who pretended that Ayatollah Khomeini was a harmless "dissident" or a "reformer." I didn't understand how some people missed that the world had just become a more dangerous place.

LMAO!

Man, I was so sad when the guys stopped doing matches. I loved being a part of something that was just so darn funny.

Just read about this on a different forum.

"Goodbye, Mr. President."

Given that, what more obvious target is there than the devil's palace?

Let me guess...your three words are the word "The," a color, and a type of building.

Hey, try this one (and tell me Osama wouldn't love this if he could do it): Kid's Choice Awards.

It was once solemnly declared to be a hard mathematical inevitability that "the natural increase of the Irish shall place America at the heels of the Pope of Rome before the end of the [nineteeth] century" if they weren't kicked out and kept out.

Were native born Americans having 2 or fewer kids per couple when that prediciton was made?

SF instead of Sci Fi? Ok, fine by me.

I actually love the stuff, but it's not always easy to weed out the good from the bad, considering the amount of stuff out there. 'Course, the same is true with any fiction, or writing. I'm not young anymore, and find myself much more picky about what I read, avid reader though I am.

I like Card quite well, though IMO his first book in any series seems to outshine those that follow, for some reason each isn't quite up to those that preceded it. Still very good, though. Also, I've enjoyed reading his political comments when they're posted here.

Simmons is great.

Heinlein I have mixed feelings about, though I love his libertarian philosophy.

Which Robinson are you referring to?

I very much enjoy Niven as well.

And recently read some Vernor Vinge, I thought that "Fire in the Deep" was fabulous.

All recommendations on this stuff are accepted and appreciated :-)

Yep; the birth rate of "real Americans" was indeed 2+ lower per family than that of the Irish immigrants.

Very entertaining and free.

Sorry, it's just an old SF distinction, like how to wear your hat. Hollywood destroys SF and makes it into SciFi.

Spider Robinson. If he weren't an athiest, he could be even more powerful. In the meantime, he does a decent pun.

Niven and Pournelle are better than the sum of their parts.

Try Kristine Smith, Jani Killian series. They're not "girl's novels" as my husband thought. Once he started, he agreed that they're good fiction and philosophical delemmas, with the explosions in the right place.

Good bye Mr. President works to me.

So does The White House (as posited above.)

"The death of grass" is interesting but a little bit sophomoric.
Avaliable on line somewhere just google it.
I assume you read Jeff Heads Dragon series. Pretty dang good actually. Clancyish.

"EON-Empry-Eternity" series by Greg bear is good.

Swan Song by Robert Mchammon (sp?) is an absolute must.

so much to read so little time
