Some Mexicans bypassing U.S. for Canada's guest worker program
The Dallas Morning News ^ | April 5, 2006 | ALFREDO CORCHADO

SAN MARCOS DE ABAJO, Mexico – He'll miss Dallas – a place he once worked – but not enough to return anytime soon. Migrant worker Reyes Suaste has discovered Canada.

This year he'll head way north to pick chili and cucumbers. Dallas is much closer to his home in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, but there are other aspects of the U.S. immigrant experience he is happy to do without: "I won't miss being treated like a criminal and not knowing when I can return home," he said.

Mr. Suaste, 27, his brothers, Alejandro, 30, and Eusebio, 25, and more than a dozen other men from Guanajuato are heading to Quebec – not with the help of ruthless, pricey smugglers known as coyotes, but on airplanes with assigned seating and iced drinks. The men will join more than 13,000 other Mexicans in Canada as part of a guest worker program for agricultural workers.

Proposals for a guest worker program have drawn fierce opposition in the U.S., but proponents say the Canada program offers some big advantages: workers are treated better, and they return home at the end of their assigned stay.

"We need skilled Mexican workers in the mining, steel, oil and gas exploration industries. We need waiters, nurses, cooks, construction workers, landscapers. Canada needs Mexican workers," he said. "The U.S. loss is our gain,"

Umm.. OK...if you say so.

Cool, maybe we can hand out comic books at the southern border extolling the virtures of Canada and load them up on one way buses to the northern border. Then bill Canada the transportation costs.

I have stated for a while now we could balance the budget by following the Mexican example and sending all of our poor and criminals north. We could create pamphlets and comic books on how to get to Canada, how to get Medicare, how to get free day care, how to get welfare etc. etc. We could save Trillions over a decade.

Uh, that's only half of it. What is proposed is guest worker WITH amnesty for being here illegally and citizenship at the end. That is way different than an H1B guest worker program, which we have now.

13,000 is not 20 million vermin.

Well, yeah, but it's a nice start.

Where they are likely needed is in Northern Alberta for the Tar Sands projects......QUITE a Change in temperature for these Mexican's.....but, if they can get there and they can work, fine.....but, if I remember correctly, Canada only allows foreign workers in their country for a total of 5 years. (My husband has "done time" in Canada for his US company.)

This is a complete lie. Through the '90s (I was aware of this illegal immigration culture early, for some reason) papers would periodically print stories about "They're Going Back Home!!!". Especially after 9/11 many "The Immigration Patterns Have Reversed!!" stories were printed.

Needless to say it was never true. The influx of foreigners was steady the whole time, and also steadily accelerating.

This BS story is just more of the same old trick, only now we're supposed to believe they're all going somewhere else, in this case Canada.

Funny, there are about 20 million Canadians, so will 20 million illegal Mexicans move on up there? Taking every job and house? Doubling the population? Nonsense and lies.

*Snort* Yeah, right. Good luck, Canada. Get back to us in five years and let's see if you still feel that way.

OK, see, rules like that, don't really seem to bother these people.

...think they'll demand Canada be returned to Mexico? Think they'll demand the people in Quebec speak Spanish? Think they'll refuse to pay taxes for the socialist healthcare system?

Another gagger from The Dallas Morning News.

While the Canadian agricultural worker program takes in a few thousand workers a year, the U.S. has as many as 6 million Mexican illegal immigrants.

Does anyone know how many illegals are here? The Stupid Party certainly hasn't helped clarify that number.

Why just last week our Senators were claiming twelve-million.

It's many more than that, and let's not forget about their dependents.

Freepers love to dump on Canada, but they can really prove that they love us by taking all the illegals. Maybe Tom can take time out from running for President to help us buy all these folks warm jackets.

Maybe we can talk Canada into taking a few million from within our borders.
