Wake up, Europe. It may already be too late.
MacLeans Magazine ^ | April 05, 2006 | Mark Steyn

've had a recurring experience in the last few months. I'll be reading some geopolitical tract like Sands Of Empire: Missionary Zeal, American Foreign Policy, and the Hazards Of Global Ambition by Robert W. Merry, and two-thirds of the way in I'll stumble across: "With the onset of the Iraq War and European opposition, many Americans embraced a severe anti-European attitude. 'To the list of polities destined to slip down the Eurinal of history,' wrote Mark Steyn in the Jewish World Review, 'we must add the European Union and France's Fifth Republic.' "

Yeah, right WHAT? Shall we as Jim Robinson to run a poll to see how many Freepers are currently disappointed in Republicans at the moment?! As Gordongekko909 said, not an uncommon position around here. Hold your fire, will ya.

I 'm sorry but Canada will easily be intimidated by their muslim population when it really grows unless they get their manhood back!

They are well on the way to doing that. They elected a conservative PM and have boots on the ground in Afghanistan.

They are just like the US. The cities are full of liberals, but out in the red provinces like Alberta there is a great host of hardened men who aren’t intimidated by anyone.

The Cotswolds are nice. But really quiet. I can understand why you would think of it as a retirement area. It is, in fact.

Honey versus vinegar and all that.

When someone attempts to put division and contempt between we Children of a Common Mother, I prefer boiling tar from the get-go.

It is my nature.

Thank you thank you!

Both books are somewhat overwrought -- Berlinski dwells on her own relationship with some Muslim lad who later figured in Zadie Smith's hit novel White Teeth, and Bruce Bawer is reluctant to give up on the idea that a bisexual pothead hedonist utopia is a viable concept rather than, as it's proving in the Netherlands, a mere novelty interlude; his book might have been better called While Europe Slept Around.

LOL!

The only question about Europe is whether it's going to be (a) catastrophically bad or (b) apocalyptically bad, as in head for the hills, here come the Four Horsemen: Death (the self-extinction of European races too self-absorbed to breed), Famine (the withering of unaffordable social programs), War (civil strife as the disaffected decide to move beyond mere Citroën-torching), and Conquest (the inevitable victory of the Muslim successor population already in place). I'd say option (b) looks the better bet, for a few if not all Continental nations: united they'll fall, but divided, a handful might stand a chance.

The coming storm.....

I agree that the ramifications of the past 100 years of carnage in Europe is still having devastating consequences. Leaving out WW1 and WW2. The Russian revolution and Stalins puges resulted in a death count that historians cannot really figure. 30 million is number as good as any. That in Russia alone.

MacLeans is/was like Canada's New York Review of Books. What Steyn is doing amounts to Ann Coulter writing columns for New Yorker. Amazing why the new management at MacLeans allows him to write something for it.

The sign for the beginning of the end is when the "Muslim party" starts winning seats and is included in a coalition government.

Canada will host muslims in cross border attacks on America in the future.....they have the same mentality as Europe

Don't sell the Canadians short. After half a century defeatist somnolence there are signs of a greater willingness to assert some muscle in defence of Canada and the West. Stephen Harper, the new PM, is off to a good start, and seems to have the support of a solid majority.

Once the Muslims take over Europe, how are they going to do to sustain themselves? They have few skills, except blowing things up and breeding like flies. They better get used to having no good jobs or decent living conditions because they won't be able to keep up a modern Western livestyle/economy. What then? Will they then riot against themselves? We can only hope.

"Thank God! It was an unreadable Canadian Liberal Establishment rag before the new ownership and fresh direction. "

- Don't be too sure of that. As soon as MacLean's wakes up to the fact that they hired what they thought was a harmless book reviewer and instead got a right wing political columnist, they'll drop him like a bad habit.

Thank you usurper -- Canada is changing; the scales have fallen from our eyes. The only thing I'd disagree with you is: Alberta is a blue province (blue for Conservatives, red for Liberals, orange for NDP [socialists]) -- also, even the cities there are "red" (i.e. "blue").
