Make English Our Official Language
Tell Your Senator to vote YES on the Inhofe amendment!
As the United States Senate debates immigration reform and prepares to pass blanket amnesty for at least 12 million illegal aliens, there is hope that some Senators are standing up for the American people. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) has submitted an amendment that would make English the official language of the United States. His amendment, identical to the National Language Act (H.R. 4408), sponsored by Rep. Peter King (R-NY) in the House, would require immigrants to learn English by making all official business conducted in English, including publications, tax forms, election ballots, and other items. It is hard to believe that the United States has not already declared English as the official language. At least 26 states have declared English as their official language at the state level. In a recent Zogby Poll, conducted in March of this year, 84% of respondents supported making English our official language. Making English our official language will go far in helping immigrants learn English and better equip them for success in our society. The Senate should pass the Inhofe Amendment and make English our official language!
The Senate will debate immigration legislation for the remainder of this week. The Inhofe Amendment could come up at any time. Your voice is needed to make sure we make English our official language!

The government needs to keep hands off of employment considerations. I can see why some companies need bilingual employees. It's none of the government's business.
They are free under the First Amenedment to say anything in any language. That will not change. Passing a constitutional amendment would be too difficult, and many people would be nervous about touching free speech rights.
So what exactly is the point of it? What will it accomplish?
This kind of thing is what we expect from our elected leaders. Just standing around waiting to get re-elected just doesn't cut it anymore. Maybe we will see more of it since they may be getting indicators of their majority status on the line.
Could be used as a basis to limit employment to h=Hispanics only.
It is a general statement of direction and principle, like pledging allegiance to the flag.
If you pledge allegiance, you indicate your general sentiments, but don't bind yourself to do any particular thing. You are still a free citizen, and will use your judgement on what actually constitutes a republic of laws, and what does not.
It could. Any law can be used badly. But any business that has Hispanics as a customer base should be able to hire bilingual speakers. Once the government has its hand in saying who employers can hire, where does it stop?
But we don't need a law to say the Pledge of Allegiance.
If English is the primary language of our nation then we will no longer have a need to print anything in foreign languages. Voters ballots will be in English only unless a private group or individual wants to spring for the costs.
It will become the responsibility of anyone in a courtroom to bring and pay the costs for their own translator/s if they cannot speak and understand English.
The public schools will no longer be required to have teachers who speak two or more languages. It will be the responibility of parents to see that their children speak English, not you and I.
Aren't employers free to hire whoever they think is the best employee for their needs?
Since my Senators are Cornyn and Hutchinson, they better vote for it without any doubt.
How would it be enforced?
Hopefully, it will mean our ballots don't need to be in Spanish.
Well, it seems a lot of effort just to not have to print ballots in Spanish, doesn't it?
