Under a deal reached Tuesday, a group of Hurricane Katrina victims staying at the Radisson Hotel near JFK will receive $2,500 if they move out of the hotel this week.
Nine families who fled Hurricane Katrina remain at the hotel, but the hotel is in the middle of a major renovation and FEMA stopped paying for the families stay in February.
Now, the hotel has agreed to pay the families to clear out as soon as possible to make way for the renovations. The hotel has agreed to pay the families $2,500 to move out this week, $2,000 if they move out next week, and $1,000 if they leave in the next 30 days.
"Hopefully I can move on and get some public housing and start working and get my life back on track, said Katrina evacuee Charles Ebans.
The Radisson has collected millions of dollars from Katrina survivors and I understand that a business has to make a profit, however this is just vulgar, this is greed, said attorney Ashwani Prabhakar. They could allow the people to stay a little while longer."
The Radisson says it will evict any evacuees still at the hotel in 45 days.

Is this guy serious?
Count me skeptical.
In my city many of the re-located.... have been living rent free for 8 months! Many do not look for jobs... it is easier for them to get welfare and beg than to do what most of us do daily.
My Opinion
all the people were doing and are still doing are roaching off the system.
They need a kick swift in the a$$ to get to work and not have their hand out all the time.
I like the way that danny crane said it last night;
These fat slobs need to get up and go to work. These people have costed us billions because they thing that they can't work.
TRANSLATION:
"I've milked this cow for all I can get, maybe I can get another government hand out and get back to selling drugs like I was doing in New Orleans"
Fixed it.
Why do they have to pay? Why can't the hotel owner call the police and have them kicked out?
Hey....I wonder if they can send all of us $2500 to keep us from going there?
From the 45 days limit the Rad imposed, it sounds to me like they've already begun the legal eviction process. (Why did they wait so long?)
Exactly....only in America is our poor actually FAT. What other country has FAT poor people?
Any bets that Charles Ebans has not even LOOKED for a job in the last six months?
He could move back to New Orleans, lots of work cleaning up debris and rebuilding. But then he would have to actually go outside and work!
yeah I work for the mediciad program here in Texas and of course everyone knows that we got the most of the evacuees and of course it is always the same sob story. Whenever they call in the first thing they say is "hi my name is such and such and i am a Katrina evacuee/victim and I need to get my scrips paid or my doctor wont bill medicaid, or I am on medicaid why did they cancel my benfits same ol same ol every f-ing day
It would seem that suitable accomodations could be had at some local motel in, say, Lovelock, Nevada for $20 a night when contracted by the month.
Even supposing these people have ties to NYC, there ought to be suitable housing in some neighborhood in, say, Bronx near a subway stop.

With all the illegals going there to work for $16.00 an hour (paid by FEMA believe it or not)....this is work he and our countries poor won't do....
The key word is WORK.

Heck, I'll take $2500 to not make a derogatory remark about these leeches. |
Your opinion is right on the money. What you are witnessing are the scum and vermin that are Ray Nagin's NOLA legions. Thousands and thousands of hard working Blacks will never go back to NOLA. They are remaking their lives at places all across the country. Many have learned that their so-called current Black leadership and the Democrat "Slavery/Welfare" Party have failed them miserably. Com'n, what person in their right mind would follow Cynthia McKinney, John Conyers, Maxine Waters, Ray "moron" Nagin, Danny Glover, Harry Belafonte, etc. American Blacks gotta wake up and dump this vermin or they will go nowhere fast. That is the "real" world!!!
I'm sure he wants to work, but is prevented as a result of his "disability."
Probably they put therse people in this facility because they intended to renovate it. That way they could eat the damage they did to the property.
