Angry mobs of Hasidim taunted cops and set fires in the streets of Brooklyn last night after police busted an elderly member of their community in a traffic stop. The wild protests flared shortly after 6:30 p.m., when police pulled over 75-year-old Arthur Schick for allegedly talking on his cell phone while driving in Borough Park.
Cops said Schick - whose family founded the neighborhood institution Schick's Bakery - became belligerent and refused to hand over his license and registration, leading officers to arrest and handcuff him.
Witnesses gave conflicting accounts of the arrest - with several saying nothing untoward happened - but some said the officers were too rough on the elderly and hearing-impaired man, who was collared at 16th Ave. and 47th St.

I have to say that I am really disappointed in the NY Hasidic community.
There has been some negative stuff coming out of that community over the last few years - the Hillary vote-selling scandal with the Skverer Hasidim, the streetfights and beatings associated with the Teitelbaum succession.
And now Hasidim rioting in the streets and setting fires over a traffic stop.
It's a chillul HaShem and it overshadows a lot of otherwise positive things.

Angry mobs of Hasidim Well at least they identify the group. I wonder if this were a Muslim incedent, what the article would have said? Angry youths?

Nor I. I can truthfully say that "angry mobs of Hasidim" is not one of your more commonly used phrases....

Hmm. I have a feeling NYPD isn't easily "taunted."

Well, there goes that response to Moslem outrages ~ you know, the one that says "Do you ever see Jews or Christians do that".

What is surprising about this? They still think they are living in the Polish ghetto, where they provide their own law, police, and social services. And hold their own riots.

I wonder if this were a Muslim incedent, what the article would have said? Angry youths? Angry youths = angry young black men.
It would have to be a different code term.

What's surprising is that while the Lubavitchers have been doing a lot to bring down the ghetto mentality imported from the old world and engage the larger society in productive ways, other Hasidic communities like the Satmar have become more adversarial, especially with the Teitelbaum controversy.
A few years ago a rabbi was arrested and the community's outrage took the form of a crowd of a few thousand Hasidim outside the precinct demanding his release.
But they didn't assault any police officers, they didn't interfere with the arrest and they didn't burn police cruisers.

I can truthfully say that "angry mobs of Hasidim" is not one of your more commonly used phrases....It is in NYC. There are frequently angry mobs of Hasidim, but rarely do they partake in this level of violence. In fact, never, in my recollection.

The "rule of law" is almost dead in this country. When law enforcement officers are assaulted, stabbed, shot and murdered on the streets while trying to defend against criminals of the democratic voting block, you can say the rule of law is dead. This country is moving to the point where every citizen is going to have to defend him or herself every minute of the day. If you do not have the MEANS to defend yourself, YOU'D BETTER LEARN NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. "I can't shoot someone!" you say! Let me tell you this, if you are watching your wife, husband, child, parent, brother, sister, etc. being assaulted, raped, murdered, YOU WILL BE STUNNDED AT WHAT THE HELL YOU CAN DO! Learn now. Tomorrow, next week, next month may be too late. As more illegals come in, more of this crap happens. This morning 21 more were captured on the docks in Seattle, getting out of a container from China.
