SAN DIEGO -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Major League Baseball and San Diego police failed to protect Barry Bonds and should be trying to find out who threw a syringe at him in the Giants' opener Monday night in San Diego.
The syringe was thrown near Bonds as he came off the field following the eighth inning. He picked up the object, which was about the size of a large magic marker, and carried it off the field.
Jackson said the fan should have been arrested. He added the object could have had a needle in it and could have hit the Giants slugger.
Baseball spokesman Rich Levin spoke with Padres chief executive officer Sandy Alderson, and said it may have been a cooking baster and not a medical device.

BUSH'S FAULT!!!
Since the syringe had no needle attached, I thought it was a wonderful gesture that made a point - apparently too well.
Don't throw batteries. Don't throw baseballs. Don't throw beer bottles or seat cushions. Throw a few plastic syringes. They should be easy to sneak into the ballpark and they make the case for anyone who thinks Barry cheated his way to the home run record.
Shouldn't take the grounds crew too long to pick them up either.
Yes Jesse, and your head "might" have contained a brain too....
They would be so light weight, unless filled with something, that it would be like throwing a ping pong ball.
Jeeze, Jesse, give it a rest.
Jackson is a hemmorroid.
WHICH would natural, given that Bonds is the turkey that he is!
HMMM..where was Jackson when someone nailed Carl Everett in the back of the head with a cell phone in Oakland? Anyone remember that?
Wh do we not protect Bonds from this?
It's because he's black. Everything wrong is done because someone is black. Except when they are not black, then nothing is wrong.
Yo, Jesse,
Don't run with scissors. You could put your eye out.
And it could have been laced with AIDS virus and it could have penetrated his skin and it could have given him hepatitus and it could have made him sick and could have caused him to die.
Until it becomes a detriment to ticket sales nothing will happen. Then barry will be put in time out.
Also I think if you must go to a game where he plays everyone in the stands should throw syringes out at him.
I think it sad that folks can still be lynched without any proof. They did the same thing to Lance Armstrong, the most tested athlete of all time, and all the French media had to say is "he is a doper", and that made it true. "Prove you're not" is their refrain. Bonds has enormous talent. Give steroids to anyone you choose and they cannot equal Barry's prowess. He works hard, eats right and is blessed with a great physical structure. His fatal flaw is he is lacks humility and does not suck up to media, so they choose to destroy him.
The game is not supposed to be "Who's the best on steroids"!
Bonds is an ass who not only cheated in baseball he is an adulterer, cheated on the first wife, his girlfriend, shafted his children for child support and now uses them as a shield;didn't care about his team mates until they were needed as a shield,he's cocky, arrogant, obnoxious and a racebaiter PISS ON BONDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GETTTING OLD!
Yeah right. Eating right and working out doesn't cause your hat size to change 3 sizes.
