Evenin', all!
I'm taking R&R right now...it's rough out there!
Hmmm...take a soldier out to dinner?
The best place I was taken to was a Ruth's Chris steakhouse in Washington, D.C.
I also liked the Italian restaurant in Tripoli, where we all ate from big bowl in the middle of the table. Or the Wiener Schnitzel in Augsburg...best doggoned gulasch suppe I've ever eaten!
But, to be honest, if the troop were someone just coming back from overseas, then the best place is around Nana's kitchen table with hot home-made food heaped high. Know what I mean?

Today's FEEBLE
YOKE :
Last New Year's Eve, Beachy stood up at the local pub and said that it was time to get ready.
At the stroke of midnight, she wanted every husband to be standing next to the one person who made his life worth living.
Well, it was kind of embarrassing.
The poor bartender was almost crushed to death...

I think I'd take them to the park nearby, with a picnic. We could take a walk in the woods afterwards, and I would listen to anything they cared to share with me.

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning to our
Military, our Allies, and their families. THANK YOU. You're all grand!
Thank you, Tibby, for preparing the Canteen for todays activities. You know, I don't think I'd take them anywhere. I'd invite them to my house and cook up a home cooked meal. Not necessarily healthy food either! LOL
Weather up date from DC Metroland ~~ cloudy and cool today. Warmer tomorrow.

(Let's get dangerous)
To: All
HI all. The following post is from another board, with the poster's permission. The short question is: Vet (Afghanistan and Iraq)'s mother who provides care for him needs help jumping the VA hoops. If this is not the appropriate place, let me know. (What? something not apropos in the Canteen??)
Post begins here: Military family needs help... I know a woman who is going through hell on earth and I'm wondering if any of you might be able to help, or know of someone or some group who can help. Here's the story in brief.
Her son was in the military (forget which branch) and did two tours in Afghanistan, followed by a tour in Iraq. While in Iraq he was involved in an accident; his face was smashed with a tank turret. He survived, but obviously suffered massive head injuries. He suffered brain damage, the extent of which still doesn't appear to even be well-known.
He was at Walter Reed for a long time, while this woman had to go back and forth to be with him and continue to raise two other children. The military was far from helpful, offering her NO financial assistance whatsoever.
During the same period her husband left her -- couldn't deal with the stress.
After a two-year ordeal (I won't bother with all the details) she has this now 24-year-old at home and has to deal with all of his problems herself. She is not exactly rich and still has gotten no support from the military at all.
Her son also now apparently has PTSD and they think he "may" have damage to his brain stem. She took him to the VA hospital, and after 2 days there all they offer him is 1 hour of counseling every 2 weeks! Her other kids are reacting negatively to having the older son in the house because, well, he's not himself.
She's at her wit's end. And I don't know how to help.
Anyone?

Emergency crews respond to the scene of a C-5 cargo plane that crashed carrying 17 people just short of a runway at Dover Air Force Base, Del, on Monday. All passengers survived; the most serious injury apparently was a broken leg.
A jack-knifed C-5 cargo plane has traffic backed up for miles just outside the downtown area.
Firefighters spray water on the separated nose section of a C-5 Galaxy transport that crashed near Dover Air Force Base, Del., on Monday, to dilute fuel. The plane did not catch fire.
In order to ease air plane congestion the military has devised the new M1AA Neo-Senephrine Galaxy class.
Ed Stahl looks at the front of a RQ-4A Global Hawk during a Monday activation ceremony for the new unmanned aircraft and the 18th Reconnaissance Squadron, which operates the plane, at Beale Air Force Base, Calif.
The Air Force's white glove inspections for new aircraft are extremely thorough.
Search-and-rescue swimmers assigned to the guided-missile cruiser Cowpens (CG 63) attach the lifting band to a recoverable exercise torpedo (REXTORP) following an anti-surface warfare exercise, somewhere in the Yellow Sea on Sunday. Recoverable exercise torpedoes are used for simulation purposes in a variety of anti-surface warfare training exercises.
Call me a nit-picker but I think it should be called the Yellowish-Green Sea!
Personnel Specialist 3rd Class Gary Ross sorts through newly arrived mail in the hangar bay aboard the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), somewhere in the western Pacific Ocean on Saturday. Lincoln and Carrier Air Wing 2 are underway as part of a scheduled six-month deployment.
Ironically in the Army a Private 1st Class separates Third Class mail, and a Specialist 4th Class handles the First Class stuff.

The best I could ever do would be a home-cooked meal in the area.
Not me, though.
