Landrieu threatens to block appointments over levees

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Frustrated by a lack of progress in rebuilding the state's levees, a Louisiana Democrat threatened Wednesday to block President Bush's appointments requiring Senate confirmation until "significant progress" is made toward restoring the flood protection damaged by Hurricane Katrina in August. Saying coastal residents "cannot wait much longer," Sen. Mary Landrieu blamed the loss of 1,200 lives in her home state "to the loss of wetlands as a protection and a lack of levees that held." She is demanding that the Bush administration develop a comprehensive levee, flood control and coastal restoration program, and dole out the funds to pay for it. "For me, this used to be a major policy issue," she said. "Now, it's an issue of life and death." The senator said she sent a letter to Bush on Tuesday and "urged him specifically to request of Congress $6 billion that his administration says that we need in order for our region to be safe." If the White House fails to meet her demands, "I will be compelled to use the power of my office as a senator to hold all executive nominations until we can get a response from the administration."

If memory serves, Duke Charles the Bold, when dealing with obstreperous officials in his cities, used to have them drowned.

So it's the Feds' responsibility to rebuild the Lousiana levees?

If these DUMB ASSES still want to build below sea level I wouldn't give them anything. This is just grandstanding on her part to divert attention from where the real blame for this crap lies.

Remember when the Dinosaur media said 10,000 dead was a conservative estimate? What did Nagin do with the 8,800 unused bags? Is he saving them for normal NO business?

As a Taxpayer in Tennessee, I hereby declare that I will also block all appointments in the Senate until the government stops spending my tax dollars on projects as silly as the levee system on a city build below sea level, sitting in a hurricane-prone region along the Gulf of Mexico.

She is demanding that the Bush administration develop a comprehensive levee, flood control and coastal restoration program, and dole out the funds to pay for it

That way if there is another disaster she can blame it all on the President. I've come up with a new name for them: "Demochronic Cry Babies".

I hereby order the Sierra Club and every other envirowacko organization to file a lawsuit in Federal court to block ALL restoration efforts to the levee system until a complete and thorough Environmental Impact Statement is done.

Should take about 10 years to wind it's way through the courts.

Smoke that Mary Moon.
