Senator Reid has just vowed to block any immigration bill because the minimum wage issue was not voted on.

Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry (N.C.) is trying to extend the storys shelf-life with a resolution commending the Capitol Police. Shelf Life? She hasn't even been arrested yet. Novak wants this story to go away.

I will no longer vote for a Republican who does not strongly support effective enforcement of US boarders. I am in Massachusetts anyhow, so it means that I likely will no longer be bothered with having to vote, unless a viable third party comes about quick.

I hope the Senate version does die and maybe the "governing class" might just realize that what Americans want is the House version. No amnesty, strict border enforcement, stiff penalties for those who knowingly hire illegals and, sure enough, these people wil find their way back home. Let them demonstrate in the streets of Mexico for reform of that corrupt system.

Yep.
Anything touched by either of McCain or Kennedy is ANY thinking American's worst nightmare.

I'm sure they go to bed dreaming of la raza reconquistas screaming at them and protesting them at every campaign stop. I think the larger protests sent this message. The govt. needs to deal with these insurgents.

The immigration issue could split blacks and unions away from the MSM-Dem Party, but instead the GOP forms a circular firing squad.

The combination of these two issues into one bill is guaranteed to maximize political damage to Republicans.
How about maximizing damage to the United Staes of America?
The one thing that I will never understand (or maybe it's that I understand perfectly and the truth scares me) is why this is always a democrat or a conservative issue... because this is an issue about the future of our country. OUR country!!! Our weak-a$$ed "leadership" in the House and Senate need to forget about their jobs for a moment, and consider just why they sit in public office in the first place... To do what is best for the health of the Republic and its citizens. If they're unable to answer in the affirmative, it's time to throw them the hell out.

You all need to read this article by a Democrat who feels supporting amnesty spells defeat for the Democratic party. We can only hope.....
He says:
Thus if our Congressional Democrats join selfishly in abetting another huge amnesty, they fail the trust which the vast majority of Americans put in our party for decadesfrom the time of FDR to the point at which those principles began to break down in the last decades of the 20th Century.

"Senate's Immigration Bill Is Republican Politicians' Worst Nightmare"
He's 100% right. The open borders elitists in the Beltway are undermining the grass roots of the party, and ensuring low turnout in the 2006 and 2008 elections.
We need to take back the Republican party from the elite. Even if that means the lawn goes unmowed at the Bethesda country club.
Today's challenge is akin to the efforts of the Rockefeller Republicans to take over the party in the 1960s. It's the same conflict outlined by Phyllis Schlafly in "A Choice, Not an Echo" (in 1964.)
If the Republicans in the Senate want to act like Democrats and reward law-breakers, there's just no incentive for conservatives like myself to vote for them.

Because President Bush has insisted on a comprehensive bill that includes both provisions, Republicans will lose this debate no matter what happens. A political and national security 'lose-lose'.
Just lovely...
