Supporters of a guest worker program that would let illegal immigrants stay in the United States said Tuesday they don't have enough Senate votes to overcome objections from conservatives who oppose the measure on grounds it amounts to amnesty.
As negotiators worked on a compromise to let those who have been here longest remain, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said a majority in the 100- member Senate support his and Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's proposal to provide green cards to illegal immigrants after they've worked in the U.S. for six years.

That is true. If we had to pay to actual cost of gasoline at the pump many would freak. The oil companies, and traction companies, and metal companies operate under protection around the world. That cost is borne by all.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.
Reid is blocking amendments from being considered on the floor. Cspan 2 now.
Usually it's democrats who conceal their true intentions, by using code words. You know, "pro-choice" instead of "pro-abortion". McCain playing word games, his "earned citizenship" instead of "amnesty", makes a mockery of his claim to be a "straight talker". On top of him cozying up to Rev Falwell, I think he's fully exposed himself as the self-serving snake he's always been.
::applauding::
That's the best news I heard since Specter proposed his version of a bill regarding the illegal invaders.
If our Senators can't tell us with any certainty who these people are, what they are doing, where they are hiding out, what THEIR TRUE intentions for our country are, than they need to find all this out before it becomes a national threat to our security.
Until than give no amnesty and deport them immediately.
And above all stop them at the border with armed national guards!
I agree with you 110%. Our leaders don't understand this solution because they are not term limited and are looking for future votes.
Side note: When viewing the border videos of the illegals who are caught, it sure seems to me that these folks are rather plump considering that they are coming from a poor country where no jobs are available?
how much did 911 cost? how much will the next one cost?
Using the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a model, an estimated twelve million illegals would require a bureaucracy of at least like size. Plus, the Bureau of Illegal Aliens would also have the opportunity to "lose" or "misplace" over $24 billion (12 million illegals times the $2000 "fine").
What a deal!!!
At bottom, the most fundamental responsibility of the federal government is to maintain the integrity of our borders. And the United States Senate decisively proves that they are utter failures, even at that most basic constitutional responsibility.
No Amnesty! What do yall think about adding a sign that says NO AMNESTY on Wave Your Flag Thursday?
ping...
It bears repeating:
Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907."In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
Every American citizen needs to read this!
As true today, almost a century later, as it was then.
Lol, pass the strawberries : )
[Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.]
If a president said that today, he would be labeled a racist and the Democrats would burn crosses on the White House lawn.

I agree 100%
