Supporters of a guest worker program that would let illegal immigrants stay in the United States said Tuesday they don't have enough Senate votes to overcome objections from conservatives who oppose the measure on grounds it amounts to amnesty.

As negotiators worked on a compromise to let those who have been here longest remain, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said a majority in the 100- member Senate support his and Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's proposal to provide green cards to illegal immigrants after they've worked in the U.S. for six years.

Same here, there are many parts of our city that is unrecognizable. All the surrounding comminities are now over 90% hispanic and look just like Mexico. The problem is that people who do not live with it don't believe it. We Californians know it to be true.

Mande? Digame otra vez!

What? Tell me again..lol

The wall won't cost us a dime.

Round up all the illegals, confiscate all their ill gotten gains to buy material....

Each one is responsible to build 1 foot of the wall before being thrown back over.

Problem solved!

Oh for cripes sake studies have show the price of lettuce would only go up a few pennies if the growers had to pay legal wages. Google it if you don't believe me, I have posted studies before. The real cost would be much higher but hidden, medical care for illegas, public schooling for their children social services etc.... Selling Price is relative, the realoverall cost is what is important.

Round up all the illegals, confiscate all their ill gotten gains to buy material....

And then prosecute their employers using the RICO statutes and use the proceeds from the sales of confiscated property.

We have been sold out. That is pretty obvious.

If the problem gets fixed at all it will be by the citizens fixing the problem themselves.

It won't get done any other way.

And what happens if no vote for amnesty is passed?

Employers who hire illegals will now be heavily fined, welfare to illegals will be cut off completely, and the anchor baby laws will be repealed. Then, when illegals find themselves jobless and unable to leach freebies off the American taxpayer, they'll march themselves back to the third-world and the entire problen will be solved.

< / Twilight Zone >

In all seriousness, nothing will happen -- the border will remain relatively easy to cross, the American taxpayer will continue to pay through the nose for criminals (30% of all inmates at Federal prisons are illegal aliens), violent Hispanic gangs (and criminal enterprises) will continue to grow at an alarming rate, American wages will continue to be depressed, and the GOP will continue to be deluded into believing that by pandering to criminals they can make headway into the Hispanic electorate.

Be prepared to pay $20 for a head of lettuce

Numbskulls like this poster don't realize we're already paying $20/head for lettuce. Just because you don't see it in the direct price at the supermarket doesn't mean the total net carrying cost comes in any less.

How come a state like Calif, with something like the 5th largest GDP in the world, isn't able to cover it's basic operating costs without floating huge bond issues? It's the other $19/head that is being incurred by the taxpayer in the back-end (literally as well as figurtively) to support millions of low-skill, low-value add freeloaders.

I believe there is something far more sinister afoot than merely politicians pandering for votes.

And this is too rich of a country that makes the rest of the world jealous.

Some would have us become a third-world nation to get in good with the rest of the globalists.

Without losing their own huge wealth, of course.

Destroy the working class in this country is the name of the game. They are almost there.
