Don't worry. I'm sure a fine candidate will emerge to beat Lampson. Perry will call a special election.

Am sure you've noticed that many republicans have joined the Donner Party.

Or they sign on to the Opportunist Party at the drop of a hat.

On C-SPAN this morning, they were saying that if he withdraws by a certain date, he's eligible to keep the money in his campaign coffers to convert to his legal defense fund. I guess he thinks he'll need it. :-\

DeLay is a House member, not a Senator.

I guess it goes by State. perhaps post #18 is the way it will happen.

I let the lawyers swim in their own muck and try not to stir the bottom myself.

I'm still stunned over Delay quitting his bid to re-election. I don't live in his district but I've always been a supporter of his. I wish him well.

I wish we knew what happened recently to cause this change.

Radioactive? I guess that includes Cheney, Rumsfeld and many others as well. The dem attack dogs get to choose who gets labeled and our guys cave when it gets too hot. I'm just sick of it.

It's very poossible that the Bush team asked him to step down, clear the decks for the party in an election year. That's too bad because DeLay is a great man, an Christian advocate for Jews and a very patriotic American. I still support him 100%.

Maybe it's as simple as what he said in this Fox interview and he didn't want to put his constituents through all this, plus the money it would cost for a close race that'll end up as a possible loss. I just don't know.

Fox said Delay talked to President Bush last night but that Delay initiated the call and it appeared toi them (Fox) that this was a personal decision made by Delay.

Then their commentator said that one factor was Terry Schiavo - that you could trace the decline in Republican fortunes to Delay's decision to intervene in the Schiavo case.

His former chief of staff who admitted to bribery and corruption is cooperating with the Feds.

I'm sick of it, too. But the politics of the situation are that Delay may well have lost the election, and he's more concerned about the (R) label than anything else.

Doesnt that presuppose that Delay has something to hide?

I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but he really is tainted with scandal. I would not be surprised if he is arrested again.

The Wall Sreet Journal quoted a WaPo article regarding the point that DeLay had only won with 55% in 2004. The strategic "mistake" was that he had shaved the margin in his own district for the benefit of other Republican candidates in Texas. Even of there's absolutely nothing that Ronnie Earl has, all this talk of "scandal" would have brought out the Ds in his district, and discourged the Rs, and probably enough to tip the scales. If his district has a generic Republican incumbent running in November as a result of a special election, it's likely to stay Republican.

As for DeLay, if/when he's exonerated he becomes a prime candidate for the US Senate from Texas.

I can understand the broader view, but I also have to suffer the local consequences... he's my Rep.

From the local point of view, Tom won the nomination then called it quits, leaving us in a lurch looking at a Dim.

To say that I'm upset about this would be putting it mildly.

I won't judge him for now, but it is quite possible that he has broken the law.
