No terrorism in deadly Toronto doughnut shop explosion: police (rush to judgement?)
However, note this link, and quote located there:
Autopsy to be conducted on Tim Hortons flash fire victim [ 1, 2 ]
I believe a little skepticism is in order, at least until more facts emerge.
Thanks for the digging and the links! I was wondering about this since I'd hadn't seen any additional info.
This'll be covered-up by the PC crowd in Toronto, I'd bet.
Thanks for looking- I figured it was easier just to gather all the links I had in one place, rather than keep making multiple referrals to different sites and posts. It's a strange case.
I get a strong sense of "let's not panic the sheep" from the official sources.
I suppose this character could have blown himself up with gasoline in a "goodbye, cruel world!" gesture, but it sure looks suspicious to me.
Maybe it's related to the Brian Wells case. Remember, the Erie, PA pizza delivery man who was killed by an explosive collar while in police custody?
"..."let's not panic the sheep"..."
Same kind of treatment we get here, from the 'officals' in charge. I agree; it's very suspicious.
Somewhere, buried in the comments related to those links, that possible likeness was raised. At this stage, you can't rule it out.
For reference:
Collar Key In Deliveryman Death (Erie pizza delivery bank robbery ...
(CBS/AP) The FBI on Tuesday released photos of a metal collar found around the neck of a pizza deliveryman who robbed a bank and then was killed when a bomb ...

Agreed.

Beautiful country. As for that bagel, I believe Tim Horton's sells something they call "Timmy Bits," but in light of the Mad Bomber, maybe we should not go there...

I had completely forgotten about that. That was a very strange case.
It is a strange case, way too soon to be certain of anything. The one thing I am certain of is that a depressed person would NOT strap a bomb to themselves and then go blow themselves up alone in a restaurant bathroom. That theory don't hunt. IF indeed this person did strap a bomb to themselves, and that is a big IF, then this person had other plans than Tim Horton's bathroom.
That's like checking Cynthia McKinney's website for information on the history of space exploration.
They're the fine folks that excitedly proclaimed a helicopter-borne tree trimmer a "radiation monitor."
But, NEIN tells people what they want to hear, and I guess that's all that matters.
Point taken- I post 'em as they appear, buyer beware.
But it is an odd case.
"Remember that kid who blew himself up at the Oklahoma football game? Haven't heard much more about that."

Wow, you're right!
You've got to get up pretty early in the morning to get ahead of the pajamahadeen. Little Mr. Green Jeans lingo there.
(steely)
Glad you like the scenery.
Now, back to the explosive donut suspects:
Don't ask about the fish.
I think we have our man.

Car linked to dead man
Tim Hortons flash fire victim remains unidentified
By KEVIN CONNOR, TORONTO SUN
A car found in the area of the Tim Hortons outlet in which a man died in a flash fire on Sunday is being examined by forensic experts.
"A vehicle found at a nearby parking garage has been taken to the Centre for Forensic Sciences for investigation and we are examining video evidence," Det.-Sgt. Myron Demkiw said yesterday outside the Yonge and Cumberland Sts. coffee shop.
An autopsy determined the cause of death was smoke inhalation. The man's identity has still not been established.
On Sunday afternoon a man entered the restaurant and a short time later an explosion was heard and smoke came from the washroom.
Toronto Fire Services put out the blaze, which was contained to the men's washroom. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"A container was found in the bathroom with liquid that is believed to be gasoline," Demkiw said. Police said there is no indication of a terrorist link. Initial radio reports after the fire said a man was seen with explosives strapped to his body.
Demkiw said police still have no idea of any motive behind the fire.
"At this point we don't know if it was accidental or deliberate," he said.
A bag found at another Toronto Tim Hortons after the fire led to an evacuation, but that bag was empty and unconnected to the other event.
"You can feel the tension in places like Toronto," Justice Minister Vic Toews said.
"When something unusual happens, people automatically become worried that there's some kind of a criminal activity involved. We need to restore calm into the streets of these cities."
