"There is no correlation between time since immunization and outbreak," she said. "There are cases among people who were immunized two years ago and other who were immunized 23 years ago. There is also no correlation with lot number of the vaccine, manufacturer, or physician who gave the immunization."

FYI, FWIW:

Mumps Strikes 245, Puzzling Iowa Officials--From our state epidemiologist, as quoted in the article:But she added, "Our law does not allow us to identify entities associated with outbreaks."Read that statement very carefully...as she is trying to tell you something. This woman ONCE, at the beginning of Iowa's five year (so far) whooping cough epidemic (which is so severe as to cause total shutdowns of entire high schools), actually said in the DM Register that it was caused by un-vaccinated illegals. She is honest; she knows the problem; but is not allowed to directly communicate it for political reasons

...the end is no where in site.

Well, that makes sense. The end is usually on the edge of a site, and nowhere else..

"If the patient's record indicates that he or she has been received two MMR doses...

Let's see? Where would people NOT get the required-by-law MMR vaccines? Mexico? Guatemala? Colombia?

Perhaps the school is using "undocumented" aliens to clean dorm rooms.

Follow-up reports have been completed on 136 cases of which 66% were in patients who had received two doses of the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine, which is considered sufficient to guarantee full immunity.

And what of the 34% who didn't received two full doses? I guess it doesn't matter that one-third of these college kids apparently aren't vaccinated, since vaccinated kids got the disease? It would be wrong to discriminate against the unvaccinated, of course. /sarc

Harris agreed that Dr. Congeni's theory best explains what has happened in Iowa, especially since the mumps strain is the same one that caused outbreaks in England over the past few years. That suggests that mumps arrived with a recent visitor from Britain, but "because these symptoms are often overlooked -- especially in people who have received the required vaccinations -- we doubt we will ever identify the index case," she said.

Damn illegal Englishmen!

Send the entire bill personally to Bush, his administration, and members of Congress since they so much love the cheap labor (economic slave labor) and support illegal invasion and illegal 'guest workers'. Do not pay for this with taxpayer monies!!!!

My wife was a school nurse in Iowa for several years and spent a lot of time trying to get immunization records from the large number of Bosnian and Serbian immigrants that were then settling in Des Moines. In a Des Moines high school one of the immigrants was found to have active tuberculosis and caused large numbers of students and faculty to be placed on medication for a year. It was very difficult to get these immigrants and their children up to date on immunizations because of language barriers and a perception that you didn't need shots unless you were sick. Note these were LEGAL immigrants.
