On premium cable, "Penn & Teller" (Showtime, 10 p.m.) starts a fourth season by taking on the Boy Scouts of America, charging their anti-gay bias came after the Mormons hijacked the organization in the '70s. Brash humor keeps this lively series from becoming too strident

Apparently Penn and Teller were asleep for awhile there. The issue of gays and scouting is just like every other gay issue: The reason the ruckus started up in the 70's was because that's when the pride movement started. What they're saying is like saying that no whites were racist in the South until the Sixties, because that's when all the trouble started. If P&T think an openly gay guy could have been a Scoutmaster in 1960, then they've been smoking some really good dope.

to paraphrase a recent article, its not enough to be frustrated or angry or to disagree... and certainly not enough to try to use reasoned arguments to persuade or enlighten. Instead, all that seems to matter is the intensity of the rant...
The epithets in Penn's diatribe are the primary force of his arguments but share the analogous effect of canned laughter. Try listening to some of the inane shows that try to pass for comedy today and mentally block the canned laughter. They are unwatchable. Remove the profanity and a Penn and Teller session lacks any force of argument since the subject lacked rational substance to begin with.
