Baseball fans cheer Bush, boo Bonds

The Major League Baseball season began in full swing Monday with two controversial figures receiving vastly different receptions from fans.

President Bush received a loud standing ovation when he took the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch in Cincinnati, a Republican-leaning city. He was accompanied by two injured soldiers and a father who lost his son in Afghanistan.

Bush became the first sitting president to throw a ceremonial pitch in Cincinnati as the Reds lost 16-7 to the Chicago Cubs. The ball to catcher Jason LaRue was high and off the plate, but Bush called it “my best pitch, which was kind of a slow ball.”

Little American flags were distributed to the crowd of 42,000 before the game. Fans waved them excitedly as Bush was introduced and drowned out the few scattered protesters, like the family sitting a few rows behind home plate wearing matching red-and-white T-shirts that said “11-04-08” — the date of the next presidential election.

Bush, the former Texas Rangers owner, told Fox Sports Network in a gametime interview that he has been a baseball fan since birth.

“I was born when my dad was in college, and he was the first baseman for the Yale Bulldogs, and mother used to take me to the games,” Bush said. “So it was like immersion from a young age.

“I’ve got the dish at home at the White House, and so, when I’m doing my work, I keep a game on. And there’s nothing better than opening day,” the president said.

But he balked when asked if he would return to baseball after leaving the White House.

“I don’t know,” Bush said skeptically. “You know, I’ve got too much to do right now. ... But you know, I think I’ll just always be a fan.”

I guess the fans forgot to read the President's latest poll numbers as per the LSM.

a Republican-leaning city

I gagged my Jim Beam when I read that.

Cincinnati is presently dominated by race-industry Democrats who cater to drug dealers who probably comprise Council's biggest donors. If it weren't for the fact that law-abiding citizens who vote conservative - who have abandoned the city for safer family-friendly venues with good schools (Cincinnati Public sucks)- the area would be a total liberal loss.

I hate the MSM. Let's all remember this idiot's qualification of President Bush's wonderful reception by Cincinatians so that when a parallel situation exists for the Dims we can all write in and ask why there wasn't a "qualifier" referring to the fact that it was a "Democrat-leaning city."

A**holes.

like the family sitting a few rows behind home plate wearing matching red-and-white T-shirts that said “11-04-08” — the date of the next presidential election.

11-04-08 - The next date of infamy for liberals. Regardless, they'll have to hate Bush as President tho until 01-20-09.
And I love that pic of W pitching. I guess Kerry would be throwing it underhanded to the plate.

Apparently they only let in people who have not be surveyed by the LSM

Obviously it's not true for Cincinnati within the city limits, but it is for Greater Cincinnati. I don't have the figures from 2004, but in 2000 Bush carried Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont counties in Ohio easily (almost 2-1 in the case of Butler Co. and better than 2-1 in Clermont Co.), and also Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties in Kentucky by similar margins.

The only county which was somewhat close was Hamilton Co., where the ratio was 5:4, but that's the county which includes Cincinnati.

Such cheering will take place as long this left wing media beast is unable to control events or fabricate facts.

Whether it was calculated or not, putting the injured soldiers, et al, with the President was a very smart move. You know there had to be a few 'Rats who would have loved to boo lustily, but they had to feel somewhat constrained by the presence of the heros and the missing hero's father. Maybe that new CoS his already getting it right.

...Cincinnati, a Republican-leaning city

There are 376 precincts in Cincinnati, which Kerry won 67.98% to 31.54% for Bush.

11-04-08 - That is the date that we will either have President Allen, President Romney, President McCain or President Guiliani.
That's good reason to celebrate
