I had friends who lived around there and I remember visiting them and driving by that burned down house.

It all boils down to a power struggle. The Imams see their power waining and issue Fatwa after Fatwa in an attempt to slow the inevitable and remind their followers that the Imams are in charge.

I have always felt it a shame that Egypt, with its thousands of years of history predating Islam, fell prey to the bloody cult. This article lends credence to my belief that Islam will ultimately destroy itself. It can only thrive where the population is ignorant and terrified.

They have no central authority over their religion. They have uneducated, inbread hillbillies spaning one side of the globe to the other who read the Koran a couple times, declare them selves clerics, and start releasing religious edicts any time they like with no central authority to answer to, guide them, or even certify them that they are qualified to do their duties.

Hell even Osama Bin Laden annouced fartwas in Afganistan that many islamics considered legit. It was only after 9/11, that some of the high ranking islamic scholars starting saying, "Osama may not have the authority to be releasing fartwas".

That sounds easy! I've read a little bit of the Koran. Could I proclaim myself a cleric and issue a fatwa saying that Muslims have to majorly chill out?

Islam and politics are one and the same thus when a 'learned' mufti 'decides' (instructs) that 'his' (dissent and you die!) interpretation is the correct one, there is no dissenting voices since 'he' has in his power tradition and jurisprudence. Liberty and the right to persue those liberties through dissent and the questioning of orthodoxy is anathema to these men. It would render Islam an anachronism. (Which it is!) A faith that has no answers to the questions of our time.

Therein lies the deep differential with Christianity. Although the political influence has been greatly diminished it has however in itself the ability to reform and make itself relevant in our time. (Secularists may argue this point however they have a vested interest in removing Christian thought & ideals out of the entire equation in order to persue their own deranged idiology)through it's own volition has ).

Islam is not a faith. Mohammed is not a prophet.

He is but one man who 1300 years ago had a 'vision' in the desert and manufactured a religion no different that L Ron Hubbard, Jimmy Jones or David Caresh did. Jesus Christ he is not.
