VIRGINIA BEACH The city has reached a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department to resolve allegations that the math portion of the police entrance examination discriminates against blacks and Hispanics.
[snip]
Also, the city will offer to allow 124 applicants to resume participation in the hiring process. Those 124 failed the math test between 2002 and 2005, but would have passed under the new standards.
The city also will create a $160,000 fund to compensate those applicants.
Under the agreement, the city will eliminate the 70 percent passing score for the math part of the test. Under the new standards, an applicant must score at least 70 percent on the reading and grammar test, and score an average of at least 60 percent on all three parts of the exam, said Deputy City Attorney Mark Stiles.
The old format required a 70 percent passing score on each of the three sections.

*Sigh*
I don't get it.
What does math have to do with blacks and hispanics?
In a letter received by the city on Feb. 7, the Department of Justice said that between 2002 and mid-2005, approximately 85 percent of white applicants passed the math test; approximately 66 percent of Hispanic applicants passed it; and approximately 59 percent of the African American applicants passed.
mmmmmmKay, how does a math test discriminate against black folks?
This is just ridiculous. They gave the test to 4th graders and they all passed it. One kid, a 4th grader, said that the test was so easy that anyone who couldn't pass it shouldn't be trusted to be a police officer. If only the ACLU and NAACP were possessed of that kind of wisdom!
So they could get a ZREO on the math portion and still 'pass'. Wow, that is tough.
The Justice Department must have something more important to occupy it's time.
I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well to tell you the truth, I can't subtract, so I don't rightly know myself.
25 divided by five equals 5 everywhere, and for everyone.
The bottom line? Cops in Virginia Beach will have lower IQ's than they once had. This *cannot* be a good thing.
This is going on all over the country. Whatever happened to fair and square civil service exams?? I have taken many civil service tests and have done well on most of them. I personally dont see how skin color, sex, or any other characteristic of a person has any influence on how they score- most of the police tests i have taken are very straight foward. They usually require a high school reading level and knowledge of basic algebra.
The higher you score, the sooner you get called for processing and screening- it should be that simple.
2+2=4 only in America to white people don't you know.
So instead of making kids smarter in public schools and keeping less than intelligent officers off the street.....they are going to continue a failing education system and put less than brilliant cops on the street?
**Make a mental note to avoid Virginia Beach**
They gave the test to 4th graders and they all passed it. One kid, a 4th grader, said that the test was so easy that anyone who couldn't pass it shouldn't be trusted to be a police officer. If only the ACLU and NAACP were possessed of that kind of wisdom!Only the dumbest of the dumb need to apply.
This letter from the Justice Department just proves what we already knew. Lowering standards is the PC way to increase women and minorities in fire houses and police stations
i dont know.. mabey in the algebra section they had a problem that read 3kkk/12=72 ??? Last time i checked numbers werent racist?
this PC crap is eating away at out society like a cancer
