Shooter waited - cops

A violent collision in a sandlot soccer game in the Bronx led one player to fatally shoot his opponent, cops and the victim's family said yesterday.
Albanian immigrant Besnik Qelia, 27, was gunned down near his Bolton St. home at Lydig Ave. at 10:20 p.m. Saturday - just hours after a game on a Pelham Parkway median.
"That is where it started, an argument on the field," said a relative of Qelia's who didn't want his name used.
"Things got carried over, the guy waited for him at the corner of his building and shot him."
The relative said a fight between the men erupted after Qelia plowed into the gunman on the makeshift soccer pitch at Cruger Ave. and Pelham Parkway.
Family and friends of the victim were bewildered by the shooting, which they say was carried out by a 24-year-old Albanian whose family they knew.
"It was stupidity," said one angry relative.
Aside from the fight on the field, "There was no bad blood," said Nicky Rugovia, 38, a friend of Qelia's family.
He said the suspect's family called Qelia's family to apologize.
Police said there were no arrests yesterday and the case remained under investigation.
Qelia's family said he had successfully applied for political asylum and that the night before he was killed he received official permission to return to Albania to bring his young wife, Desdemona, to America.
The couple married five years ago, just months before Qelia came to New York, where he worked as a house painter.
"He was the nicest, quietest, most respectful young man you can imagine," Rugovia said of Qelia, who lived with his 19-year-old brother - a witness to the killing.
Qelia regularly sent money home to his family in Tropoj, where he will be buried.
"He was caring for his whole family - not just his brother," Rugovia said.

Albanian killer tempers.
Oh, what's yet another Albanian blood feud ? It's only the 21st century. We can't have them moving to modernity, now, can we ?
My daugahter studied in Italy last year. She said that Albanians were the ones women had to avoid. Very emotional and very aggressive.
I guess the New Yorkers will get first hand experience in what the Serbs have seen for centuries.
But since the Hildebeast is their chosen Senator, there's a little justice to this.
Isn't your daughter the one with the crush on a Croat whose family is from Kosovo?
Albanians have been in NYC for years. They are good guys as long as you don't cross them.
Man, he sure shot a lot of people.........
I've heard the same said about both killer bees and fire ants. The unfortunate thing is that you can't always tell what will set them off.
One less soccer player...
Yes. She's been back since May and they still communicate. I'm still as curious as ever. He now has a job in Florence. She's considering graduate school there in two years and I'm not happy that he is still there. And unattached.
Yeah, you can pretty much tell what'll set them off. Though there are some groups in the city who are just flat out nuts (as a general rule. there are exceptions).
And some of them will go violent on you if you dare suggest that they aren't allowed to steal your TV.
...and yet, it's still better than living in the 'burbs. Go figure.
There used to be an old Albanian woman who taught night classes at my school. Funny thing was the fact that she taught english to recent Vietnamese immigrants. Now there are a bunch of Vietnamese speaking english with an Albanian accent.
I've heard Albanians speak with a slight Italian accent because they spent time in Italy prior to the U.S. And then you get some of them here in the city who speak with an old time Bronx accent.
You do know, of course, that the Albanians in New York, specifically Krasniqi, consists of the Europes most notorius crime family in the world. It's called the Albanian Mafia that today exceeds in power to that of the Italian mob.
Yes, there are many Albanians that are in the US to make a living, and send money home. But right now, for example, in Kosovo they have fabricated a hoax that led us into Kosovo beyond anything you can imagine. I was there from 1999 to 2004. Do a google search " Tom Gambill + Kosovo" and you will understand. Even moderate Albanians are victims of organized crime as the Albanian heirachy works with the U.S. intell agencies.......long story.
To date, the ICTY has uncovered about 2,000+/- bodies that was supposed to be numbers by the thousands. The interesting part is that these 2,000 +/- bodies are also questionable as to the cause of death.....(murder by Serbian paramilitaries, KLA (killed many Albanians and Serbs) or NATO bombing and laid out as a mass grave of 2-3 Albanians). They did find mass graves of Serbs in Kosovo fairly recently. In short, the Kosovo reports were massively exaggerated. I know because I was there........1,500 or more Serbs have been murdered since 1999 and literally cleansed in prepartation for the independence bid.....
Very very true........and it is cultural. There are exceptions, however.
