Senate Coverage -- (April '06)
THOMAS ^ | 4-03-06 | US CONGRESS

Posted on 04/03/2006 5:37:14 AM PDT by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

BTW...you mentioned earlier that is seemed like Leahy might be up to something??

I just was listening to Kennedy...and he was saying stuff about ALL of the amendments...and that they had had a LOT of hearings in the Judiciary Committee, so wants to know why there are so many...

It sounds to me like what it IS---like the DEMS are in the driver's seat...and they don't want the Reps to be able to put up amendments...just like in the House, the dems usually don't get too many amendments on the floor, because, after all---they ARE the minority.

This today sounds like the DEMS are assuming their place as the MAJORITY in the Senate (handed to them by the Republicans)...

OOOPSY....I KNOW there is a thread saying that the McCain bill doesn't have enough supports, but I don't see why not..

Dang..even most of the Republican judiciary committee members are on his side...

I knew something was going on, but couldn't figure it out. Maybe the Republicans have determined that this abomination is not going to pass, and they have lost interest. They'd better watch out though or the dems will put one over on them yet again.

LOL...Teddy Kennedy just invoked Brit Hume and Bill Kristol's names of "understanding" that this isn't amnesty and he even implied that they were FOR it!!

I am SURE Brit is thrilled.

LOL. I had the same thought. Now Kerry is thanking Kennedy for his many, many years of work on immigration...and how has that been working out for us, Ted and John.

I wonder if he'll comment on the riots in France

You know the leader he thought we should look at and seek advice

UGH...now John F'n is invoking George Will and "other conservatives" that understand what they are doing..

I think I am right...that since it IS the KENNEDY/McCain bill that was praised in the committee and on TV, THEY are once again running things...

After all, the MAJORITY leader had a resolution that he was threatening to put up instead...but, that petered out!

Kerry couldn't have gotten anything done as a prosecutor without the infusion of federal money, according to him. The tongue flicking think is just out of control. I hate that.

I heard Tom Tancredo say on the radio (Laura Ingram) this morning say that if the Senate doesn't clean up their bill and get rid of the Amnesty .. that Hassert assured him he would not bring it to the house for a vote

That he (Tancredo) would rather see no bill at all instead of the one the Senate is working on

Yeah...I wonder if Kerry would be PRAISING a leader that made a decision that caused RIOTS???

I am not saying that what they are trying to do to correct a screwed up employment system isn't right...but, they obviously are "dangerously incompetent" in making it happen...LOL

That scenario sounds just like the one I have heard predicted on Fox News by Paul Gigot and his gang from Wall Street Journal...

They have NEVER thought anything would get done before November's elections...and even then, you will be full bore into the POTUS 2008 election.

Question: IF no legislation goes through...does that STOP these protests, because the illegals will have "won" a reprieve?? Which basically a WIN for the dems??
