Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
"Does Durbin always have to be so darn maudlin!"
Yes I do believe it must be in the DNC handbook that the leaders must be maudlin!
JOHN THUNE!
Well, I was right and wrong...I said it would be FRIST that would say that HOPEFULLY something will happen tomorrow...but it was Specter.
Charles Krauthammer had a good idea....he said to have a simple bill, building a fence...and then, once the fence is in place, and a system to make sure we control the border and who comes in or out is in place..
THEN, we dicuss fast tracking the ones that are here already.
Charles must read FR, a wise thing to do, imho :)
'half of them don't even know what's in the bill...'
I think that's true. A recent FR thread highlighted that in the immigration bill was language that would entitle illegal immigrants to in-state tuition when legal citizens would not be eligible for this break. I'll bet most of the Senators didn't know that was in the Bill. I called many Senators to say that made no sense......and rewarding illegal behavior in any way makes no sense.
I am for stopping the flow, immediately and then we can deal with the ones that are here. I am a non-WASP and I have resented some of the comments about them because of that fact. BUT! Right is right. We have 11 million illegals, lets not collect any more of them. Then move to sort out those who are here with justice that is tempered with mercy and common sense, these are people after all.
I am sure they don't know the half of it, that is why I want to hear it all the good ideas and the stupid ones. They should have to present it line by line.

The Senate convened at 9:30 a.m. and adjourned at 9:40 p.m. No record votes were taken.
Morning, OXEN. Glad your computer is working today.
Did either of you watch the circus that was the closing of the Senate yesterday?
Durbin, Lehay, Kenndy....8mins each [puke]
No, I heard it went late.
Absolutely!! I was fantasizing a scenario where we all marched on DC and fired them all (though I would make a few exceptions). Jim Pinkerton has pointed out that it would be easier to round up all of the illegals in this country than to manage the program of fines, background checks, etc. that is being proposed and which we all know will never be implemented.
like that's gonna happen.
Do you have any idea what Leaky is talking about. I haven't heard any religious or ethnic slurs in this debate.
I haven't tuned in yet
What happened?
I do not know what is going on.
Oh, Stevens just wanted to say something and he had Leahy, I think it was Leahy, sit in the chair while he spoke.
I don't know why a Repub. didnt' sit in for him
Has Leaky been listening to Savage again??
A couple weeks back Reid was talking about his radio show concerning the ports deal
