The president of the world-renowned Sorbonne University has branded French students protesting about the country's new employment law "ignorant and stupid".
Reacting to protests over the law, which makes it easier for employers to fire, and therefore presumably more willing to hire, young workers, Jean-Robert Pitte said the youngsters had no dreams but believed everything was due to them as a right without having to work for it.
"I'm very angry about the demagogy, the ignorance and the stupidity of the young and of the French," said Dr Pitte, 56, a geography professor who has taught at Oxford and Cambridge and holds the Légion d'honneur.

And France perfectly illustrates the end result of the Democrat agenda to turn America into a Euro-style, secular-socialist welfare state. We normal humans must be always vigilant and never take for granted that Republicans will control Congress and the Presidency in perpetuity. The scumbag Democrats are always lurking in the shadows with their obscene agenda to destroy the nation and turn it into.... France.
Actually, the Sorbonne isn't the equivalent of Oxford, Cambridge, or Harvard.
It is arguably the oldest university in the world (Bologna may disagree). It was founded largely by Peter Abelard in the peak of the golden era of medieval Europe.
As for today, however, any student living in France can go there for next to free. It's just a matter of signing up.
Science Po and other Grande Ecoles are where the elite go today in France.

I wonder if a French subject has the right or know how to say "Take this job and shove it I ain't working here no more" If they would riot with that mantra they might start to feel free. They could then go out start their own business and put their old bosses out of business. But no that would be toooooooooooooooo capitalistic and evil.

I agree, and this is something that puzzles me about the students. If its going to be a permanent job, it had better be a fantastic job. Anything less than perfect, however, will gradually turn into a living nightmare over the years. This is like being forced to marry the first girl you ever dated. I wonder what the rate of workplace violence is over there.

However, it is always attractive politically to flog one's opposition party and this is one of those wonderful populist experiences that will enable the socialists to pick up a few seats, so why not shriek at this tiny mouse? It will work.
