Sunday, April 2, 2006 11:58 a.m. EDT John McCain Praises Pro-illegal Protests
Sen. John McCain is praising the recent wave of pro-illegal immigration demonstrations, saying that if the protesters hang tough they will succeed in forcing Congress to liberalize immigration laws.
"If such demonstrations continue, I think we will have a bill for the President to sign soon," the Arizona Republican told a New York City gathering on Friday sponsored by the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform.
"The more debate, the more demonstrations, the more likely we will prevail," McCain added, in quotes picked up by the New York Daily News.
The Irish group backs the McCain-Kennedy bill that would allow illegal aliens already in the U.S. to stay and work toward citizenship.
McCain offered the comments as the city girded for its first major pro-illegal rally - a march across the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday that ended in lower Manhattan.
Despite the Arizona Republican's support, marchers on Saturday sounded decidedly anti-GOP.
"We are fed up," said Humberto Suarezmotta, a former professor from Colombia, told the News.
"Since the Mayflower, immigrants have been coming here and now we have Republicans who are against minorities."
"The people united will never be defeated!" other demonstrators chanted in Spanish. "We're not going, but Bush can leave!"
Keep repeating the name "George Allen" - you'll get to like it.
Count me in as well. And yes! George Allen!!!!
He better be denied the nomination then, because I don't include myself with "we". No way I could vote for him, no matter who the democrat is.
I'm with you on denying McCain the nomination.
But as far as having to support McCain if nominated? You might want to limit that we to an "I".
I don't have to do anything, and guarentee McCain is off the list of people I'll support at any time and any place.
I don't vote for people that convince me they lack any character whatsoever. I'll be working against him until he is out of public office for good.
Didn't the VC bring in a Cuban brain-scrambler to deal with McCain? I thought I read that somewhere. Maybe all of those Che Guevera t-shirts at the protest were his queen of diamonds.
"Yes, we'd have to support him against the Rat nominee -- any Rat."
Speak for yourself. I don't have to and I won't support this weasel.
The man is unfit to lead....but then we knew that.
GOP nomination.......hell he'll be lucky to get re-elected as a senator.
(((crickets)))
I use to wonder the same thing. When Jim came on about it and started foaming at the mouth..well, one can understand how newcomers might feel. Then the marches started by the aliens..Im thinking "Ok, what are the odds that troops would fire on these thugs if they tried to storm the state capitol?". Probably zero. Bigger problems are afoot, methinks.
Bush needs to address the country at night. He is not great at giving "Oval Office speeches," he seems to need a crowd. But Churchill's Iron Curtain speech was delivered to a crowd and a suitable crowd can be found.
They are afraid of what could happen I know, but unless he starts going to the country when the country is home, the MSM simply edits what he says into what they want him to say.
So, I know I am wasting my breath, but Bush must lead--not just play the percentages.
Okay, this is Newsmax, so I'm going to take a deep breath before replying.
Ask any Vietnam vet around here. You'll quickly get an earful, I promise you.
There are still significant differences between MeCain and the Rats. Y'all need to see those, just like the moderate Republicans need to see how bad MeCain is.
In other words, both sides of this debate are stupid.
Well, if he had any chance to the Republican nomination, --which I don't really think he ever did --, he just blew it.
I believe McCain is truly insane. As a result he's very dangerous. I could not vote for him under any circumstance.

in the mail to John Queeg McCain and the other 49 of his Fraternity Brothers and Sisters.
I just hope they get to the Senators' office through all the security checks before they make any irrevocable stupid decisions on this.

I also sent a bunch to Tom Tancredo and J.D. Heyworth to pass out for fun. Too bad they are pretty much the only two people in Washington that really 'get it' on this issue.
They may look a little funny on your monitor, but they print quite nicely, especially on color inkjet or color laser printers.
