Lawmakers draw immigration battle lines(GOP senate gonna cave)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- On the eve of a showdown over a historic overhaul of U.S. immigration law, congressmen drew lines in the sand Sunday, leaving it all but impossible to envision what kind of legislation may ultimately win passage.

"It is incumbent upon us in the Senate to compromise," Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist told CNN's "Late Edition." He called the nation's immigration system "flat out broken."

The fierce debates -- centering mostly on what to do with the millions of undocumented immigrants currently in the country -- don't fall along a simple partisan divide. Splits within each party and a wedge between many Republicans and President Bush lay the groundwork for a passionate, bitter battle.

The Senate began deliberations Thursday and plans to try to tackle the issue this week.

Even if it manages to pass a bill this week, another fight likely would follow in the joint House-Senate Conference Committee, with some House members fighting for a much tougher bill than the Senate is even set to consider.

This bill will accomplish exactly NOTHING. Except there going to have to figure out how make it cost a lot.

Just like the Farm Bill
The Highway Bill.
The Medicaid Bill.

And the most useless reason to cut down a forest...the Energy Bill.

Since most of the illegals haven't filed income taxes for all the years they have been here and are therefore criminals in that regard also, will only the illegals who did file income taxes be allowed to stay?

If they give a "tax amnesty" to the illegals, will they have to give this tax amnesty to everyone?

Will they illegals applying for guest worker status be required to show where they have been working in the past and show how much they made and will the IRS go after them and their employers for back taxes?

This is the way I see it:

Bush and the predominantly spineless Senate
vs.
We the People and the Republican Congress

How much compromising will we have to do?

He is already getting his red, white and green contribution booth ready for the May first marches.

Wonder how far he can go on one Peso?

RINOs are dumb enough to think the Illegals will support them.

The House has to stop the Bush/Kennedy/McCain/Hillary amnesty/guest worker crap. The Senate is mostly pro-criminal, anti-sovereignty scum.

Has anybody seen a preliminary analysis of vote count to sustain a filibuster?

There are also a few Dems (Byrd, Conrad) that are anti-amnesty.

How many Republican Senators does McCain have on his side?

"RINOs are dumb enough to think the Illegals will support them."

The stupidity of these GOP strategists annoys me greatly. Anybody with any common sense can see that those illegals protesting in Los Angeles and Phoenix won't be voting Republican, if given the chance.

The type of person that breaks the law when it's inconvenient for them... they don't tend to vote Republican. Think Bill Clinton.

Can you cave in if you've already caved in? There's no more cave left, is there?
