WASHINGTON - A slim majority of Americans are open to allowing undocumented workers to obtain some sort of temporary legal status to remain in the United States, with stronger support for the idea among Democrats, younger adults and more educated Americans, a new poll finds. Overall, 56 percent of Americans favor offering illegal immigrants a shot at some kind of legal status; roughly two-thirds of those ages 18-34 like the idea and an equal share of those with a college education agree, the AP-Ipsos survey found. While Democrats were more likely to support temporary worker status, with 62 percent favoring the idea, even among Republicans there was majority support, by a narrower 52 percent, according to the poll.

Cherrypicking push poll, pure and simple. See the more credible Rassumussen Poll and compre the methodology.

How will we ever assimilate close to 100 million new people?

Don't worry, there only 100 million people left in Mexico and only 60% of them want to come to the USA.

I'm not saying it does validate anything. I am saying they are trying to use a typical liberal bully tactic. No one wants to be called stupid or racist. It is a bully tactic.

Unfortunately, there was a Time poll that had the same findings as the MSNBC poll, so if anything, the Rassmussen Poll is the anomoly.

What evidence is there that the Time and MSNBC polls are flawed? The link to the MSNBC poll was suspiciously devoid of any discussion about methodology.

It's not complicated.

Actually it is a bit more complicated than that. If you do not have the carrot with some method of legalization, the Democrats will not vote for it. If you do not have some method of strongly enforcing the first part of it (ie: penalizing employers), most of the Republicans will not support it. So either a comprehensive bill gets through, or none at all and the 11+ million continues to grow.

1003 people polled. A lot would depend on where you drew the sample from. I suspect that these polls are being manipulated.

The same question asked by Lou Dobbs the other night was 92% against, 8% for.

Another "poll" created by the Commies in the MSM in an effort to tell the American people what they are supposed to think. People who are still paying attention to "polls" are morons. "Polls" are not credible. They are creations of the DemocRATS and their toadies in the MSM.

Should we then give a free pass to a perp. who robs a bank or mugs an old lady for the same reason?

Only if they're Mexican nationals, evidently.

We are in the majority.

The silent-but vast-majority.

Don't buy into this media-driven, open boarders bullsh** for a second!

We are constantly told by liberals that these illegals only want to earn money to feed their families, regardless of breaking the law. Should we then give a free pass to a perp. who robs a bank or mugs an old lady for the same reason?

No rational person will equate overstaying a visa, or not entering the country legally, to those who rob banks and mug old ladys.

Which probably explains why these sorts of arguments are ineffective.

Enough will when pressed. We don't need that many.

We only have to wait for November for the only poll that counts.

The battle between Mexican Americans and illegals who think America is their land isn't going to end soon.

I know some will dismiss these Time and AP polls as liberal lies, but if that's the case, why did the polls earlier show the opposite?

To set a trap for the R's in Congress?

I suspect they will be required to do quite a few things similiar to the Kennedy Bill before getting a shot at citizenship. What is definite is that no one is going to find and deport 11+ million illegals...ever.

Yes, the reality is that 11 million won't be deported. However, the legalized guest workers must never be allowed to cut the citizenship quota line.

Notice they polled 18-34 year olds. I suspect that went a long way toward getting the result they wanted.

It seems clear this poll is designed to achieve the desired result. As always, it is essential to know the wording of the questions to know what the poll is saying. Being in favor of "some sort of legal status for work" is a far cry from amnesty in the minds of most people.
