I have a favorite quote for the pacificists:
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
-John Stuart Mill
Great quote. Thanks.
Great quote. If I am not mistaken, he also said something very close to: "We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence upon our enemies".
Excellent quote! My daughter is a senior at Univ of Tex. She said the "pacifists" are mean. She is afraid to upset them with hew views because she said they get angry easily and they will throw bottles and rocks at you. She said they have peace buttons all over their smelly hippy backpacks. She wants to buy some conservative buttons and put them on their backpacks while they aren't looking! She has one class, geography, where in the first week most of the students said "I don't care about making a lot of money" After FIVE years in college to get an education and a good job, she was thinking to herself "Geez I am in the wrong class!!!!" She knows it takes a lot of money just to pay the mortgage/rent, car payment, utilities, food, insurance, etc etc etc. She has priorities. She doesn't intend to live in a van down by the river nor does she plan to protest against her own country!
Nice rant, well worth the read.
I have a favorite quote, too, Nova. It's: The first step down into hell is to deny evil.
Excellent quote, thank you!
Great quote. I'm stealing it for my profile page...
What an excellent quote.
