This thread is meant to be a discussion on what we, the citizens of the United States, can do to make our politicians aware that we are fed up with the invasion of our country by illegal aliens. How can we fight back? What are our options? Which options have the best chance of working?
We have a chance to put some pressure on our elected representatives because this is an election year. The only real weapon we have to use against our representatives is our vote.
There has been some discussion as to what we might be able to do on several other threads. Some ideas suggested were:
A national rally and march to be held at some future date in Washington, D.C. that should be done before our legislators pass any new bill concerning the illegal aliens.
A campaign to send postcards informing our representatives on our feelings about the illegal aliens.
Make telephone calls to our representatives' offices.
Some other options:
Rallys and marches in several main locations around the country on the same day, such as in Washington, D.C., a city in Texas and a city in California.
Rallys and marches in many cities around the country on the same day.
A petition campaign where volunteers gather signatures of registered voters and forward the petitions to our representatives.
In addition to what I have here, FReepers are encouraged to add their own ideas or to pick the plan that they think will work the best. Discuss the advantages and drawbacks of any plan.
I think the rally and march ideas will be the hardest plan to execute. Permits will be required which would not be that much of a problem. Enlisting guest speakers, getting P.A. equipment together, paying for sanitation facilities (portapotties), paying for cleanup and paying for insurance and security make this the most difficult option. Travel and lodging make this option somewhat time consuming and expensive. There is also the possibility of violence being instigated by the other side.
I favor a petition campain. Here is why and here is how I think we could work it.
Many on FR would be willing to send in a postcard. But if friends, acquantinces and co-workers are approached about sending their representative a postcard many simply would not bother to do it. Too much work for them.
It would be much easier to get them to sign their names and addresses on a petition. It is something that they could do immediately.
If each interested person on FR could print up a petition and get 20 signatures on it and send it in that could mean a lot of signatures.
If each interested person on FR could get 20 signatures on a petition and pass out other petitions to his friends and other interested people to get 20 signatures on, that would be a lot more signatures. The FReeper could collect all the petitions from his friends and others and send them all in at once.
We need some ideas on how the petition should be worded. Most of us have printers and we can print our own petitions.
In addition to the petition, FReepers could be encouraged to call and to write their representatives. Let them know that we mean business.
Please discuss any ideas you have on this thread. What do you think is the best idea or combination of ideas? Do you have any ideas to add?
We need to generate an offense, so let's roll!
Thank you for your kind words. I don't know why you congratulate me, possibly for my talent in suffering fools like the ones who are about to sell us all down the river. In that case, I should congratulate you too. Honestly, I don't know how movements start, but if these people can protest that they're here illegally but should be allowed to stay, it seems to me that people much brighter and wiser than I should be able to come up with something. Have you been reading the news? Canada put I don't know how many thousands on planes back to Portugal. Japan and Denmark are going at it too. What is wrong with us (besides the fact that dummycrats fill our government with democrap)? We are a nation of law, not just arbitrary 'immigrants'. Send them all the h**l back. Don't like it there? Change it. You have so much more oil than we do, other resources and that fabulous economic system called socialism. Work it, d****t.
[...If you have the means of defending yourself but choose instead to take a beating so the neighbors won't call you a bully-you might as well be helpless...]
Now I get it. And I agree.
Jo
That's right. I read someone's idea of suggested activism was to burn Mexican flags. I broke my resolution about posting on immigration threads to comment that burning flags was not in the spirit of Free Republic, and could be used to harm this website.
You must be mistaken. I know FOR A FACT that illegals only do jobs Americans refuse to do. I know this because I heard Bush say so at least 50 times since last Friday and I KNOW he wouldn't lie......would he?
Ain't nobody gonna do a DAMN thing about illegal immigration from either major political party in your lifetime. So just forget it! You can huff and puff all you want, but your petitions will just go directly into the circular file. Enjoy!
Shoot,I can't think of anything.
"I cut my own yard.
I only know of one place in the area that employs illegals and they install swimming pools.
I will be turning them in soon."
That's a good laugh! More circular file complaints. You just don't get it, do you. Ha ha ha. Doesn't matter which party is in charge with this issue, the Republocrats or the Democans.
Bwa ha ha!
