House conservatives yesterday issued a dire warning to President Bush and Republican leadership that they will pay a devastating political price if they proceed with a guest-worker program or anything resembling amnesty for illegal aliens before securing the borders and enforcing existing immigration laws.

Likewise, I would look at IT training and adjust it so that we didn't need so many H1B visas there either. In the land of opportunity, immigration policy should not be cutting out good opportunities. But I would also adjust the low skill number (now 5,000 of 1m) to reflect actual demand and let the cream rise to the top; in the future generations of that pool, too.
At least someone is delivering the message.
Yeah seriously, if they want to erase the border, fine, we get all their oil.
There's no difference between an actual libertarian (not these folks that call themselves such but are actually anarchists) and a conservative on the illegals issue. If we're a self-governing nation, if the Constitution is the law of the land, illegals must go, period.
The Northern tier of states along our border could probably handle it.
We've already resolved the issue of whether or not there are jobs Americans won't do ~ it's the rate of pay.
There are, in fact, no jobs, that if paid well, cannot be done by Americans.
Even Mexican whores can be successfully replaced, and at little change in the prevailing rate.
Don't worry...I wasn't trying to sell you insurance...I have my own company as well...
Your ordinary Spanish immigrants were not exactly "light skinned". Their descendants aren't either. And everybody living in Mexico gets plenty of sunshine.
If it were a real "guest worker" program it'd be done on a world scale with workers selected by lottery.
That said, most of the workers would be from India or China. Since most of the beneficiaries here are Mexicans, then it's simply an amnesty for Mexicans.
They might, this amnesty really insults and hurts the working poor, unskilled and skilled labor most. Right now it's got a GOP label attached to it, if that can be changed to a D label then they will feel the heat too. As has been pointed out many time this is not a D vrs R issue. This is an us (usa) vrs elitest globalist rich.
I certainly let my congressman know that this is the issue I will walk away from the GOP on.
The wetbacks aren't all from Mexico. There is easily a half-billion people living south of the border, and more than half of them want to come here.
Mexico has its own illegal immigration problem.
You mistake me for someone who thinks POTUS needs reminding.
His position has not changed since he ran in 2000.
Tancredo, bless his heart, would do better to persuade his colleagues to vote for his legislation.
Bush never seems to change his mind about anything, does he?
Walk away to what? A third party?
Why not try to convince your congressperson to back TOUGH legislation or you'll vote for his primary challeger?
Why should he if he believes in his position.
Want him to take positions according to polls?
Hey, if they came through Mexico, they can go back through Mexico.
Where ever we draw the line is fine by me, as long as we're prepared to send them out of our national boundaries and keep them there.
And those jobs are what ?
Kissing the buts of a bunch of overpaid elitist like McCain ?
Sorry McCain, time for you to take out your own trash.
There was only one reason why I was willing to support amnesty. And that was because I thought there was a lot of refuges coming up from central and south America because they were fleeing the socialism that is spreading from Cuba and Venezuela. After seeing that we are getting a whole bunch of these recently brainwashed socialists infiltrating this country, forget it. We dont need anymore anti-Americans in America.
