Flags Banned At Local High School- students SUSPENDED for bringing US FLAG to school

(CBS4) LONGMONT, Colo. Several students were under suspension for flying flags at Skyline High School in a debate over immigration that has sparked debates over free speech and patriotism.

On Friday, some of the students skipped classes and took to the sidewalks outside the school.

"If this country means freedom why can't we fly our own flag? It's ridiculous," said Dustin Carlson, a suspended student.

The walkouts started on Monday when Mexican-American students began protesting the immigration bill now being debated in Washington, which calls for criminalizing illegal immigration.

Several carried Mexican flags which started counter protests from students who bore American flags. That's when the school stepped in.

Principal Tom Stumpf said students were becoming involved in what the school saw as bigotry.

Mexican-American student Lupita Silva claimed there were racial slurs and epithets.

"Just because you're Latino, they hate you," Silva said.

Stumpf said he feared the conduct with flags on schools grounds could "pretty quickly erupt into violence." He said it's his responsibility to ensure the school and students were safe and called reaction to the suspensions "misguided patriotism."

Several students were suspended but only after they were told no overt action deemed to be racial would be tolerated.

"It wasn't because of the flag necessarily. It was because of the fact that they had been warned before," Stumpf said.

Of course there isn't a quote by the principal actually condemning the students involved as racist, that might cause him to be sued for defamation of character, instead he just banned all flags from the school because they were being used by racists.

But only after American flags started to carried by American students...

Funny how that worked out...

I am not usually a destructive person, but if someone pointed out to me where Mr. Stumpf's car was parked, time to get out the turpentine.

Meanwhile in the gymnasium of Little Wound High School The body of Marine Cpl. Brett Lundstrom, who was killed by small-arms fire Jan. 7 in Fallujah, lies in state in a flag-draped casket inside a 30-foot tepee.

And no liberals protested the carrying of The American Flag by the Lakota or the Marines in Attendance.

A MUST SEE VIDEO, but watch your blood pressure when you do:

I've worn my flag pin everyday since 9/11 and the flag always flies proudly on our vehicles.(I always make sure we have an ample supply as they don't last long with a lot of freeway driving.) I wish more would adopt the habit again as it was so nice to see when everyone was displaying them after the attack on the US.

Many of the schools won't allow the students to wear the flag pins as they're on most of the schools 'No-no' lists and classed as weapons, so when the kids asked yesterday how they could get around this we all put our thinking caps on then today four of us adults took a ride into LA and purchased flag pens, notebooks and barrettes. At $4.00 per dozen for each, using my resale permit, we have an ample supply for the local kids to have plenty for themselves and to give away to any others that want them. Tomorrow we'll be busy making 'friendship bracelets' in red, white and blue.

No, we have been having rain off and on for about 10 days here in southern California, with more on the way. It's good because we were very short on our rainfall this season..

I see you are in 'Brasky. I have kinfolk there, mostly in Lincoln, some in Omaha. My mother was born in Elmwood.

I am watching the video and listening to the venom.

It does affect the blood pressure, like it or not.

That is great that you got the patriotic supplies for the kids, and even better that they want them.

Sure, everyone must take a stand now.

"Actually, the First Amendment does not allow "fighting words" either - deal with it."

What do you mean by "fighting words" and which part of the First Amendment do you think bans them?

I hope everyone will take the time to watch the video then pass it on to all their reps, friends, and also the media (not that the media would care) The more everyone sends it to the better. This is one of the most chilling I've seen especially with all the officials who get paid by the American taxpayers coming out on the side of the illegals and agreeing they have more rights to the US than Americans do.

if a school is going to ban ONE flag, they have to ban ALL

Stumpf said he feared the conduct with flags on schools grounds could "pretty quickly erupt into violence."

What are they doing with the flag? Surely they aren't burning it...or stepping on it. THAT'S where violence would erupt for me. This is about the stupidest story. SOmebody needs to talk some sense into this school admin. If it's at all possible. YEESH!
