One Reporter's Opinion - This Land Is Our Land
Newsmax ^ | October 21, 2004 | George Putnam

Posted on 04/01/2006 9:16:47 AM PST by notaliberal

It is this reporter's opinion that it is time to set the record straight for the misinformed Mexican illegal aliens and troublemaking Latino activists who call my Talk Back radio program monotonously.

They repeat for the millionth time the tired worn-out lie that "America stole the seven southwestern states from Mexico. This is our land, gringo, and we are taking it back!"

WRONG!

Here are the facts: Texans fought for and won independence from Mexico on April 26, 1836 following its victory over the Mexicans at the Battle of San Jacinto.

Nine years later, in December of 1845, the U.S. annexed the Texas republic. Congress sent General Zachary Taylor to Texas to protect its border with Mexico.

Mexico claimed the Rio Grande River as "their territory." After a series of attacks and clashes with Mexican troops inside the Texas territory, Congress declared war on Mexico May 13, 1846.

Hostilities continued for two years as General Taylor Scott led American troops to engage Mexican forces in New Mexico, California, and deep into Mexico. Mexico City was captured by General Scott in August of 1847.

February 2, 1848 Mexican officials and U.S. representatives signed a peace treaty known as "THE TREATY OF GUADALUPE HIDALGO."

The provisions of that treaty called for Mexico to cede to the U.S. 55 percent of its territory (that is present day Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas and parts of Colorado, Nevada and Utah) - this in exchange for $15-18 million in compensation for war-related damage to Mexican property.

The U.S. Senate ratification of the treaty, U.S. forces then left Mexico City.

There you have it. There are the facts. Either accept the facts or continue living a lie. The U.S. did not steal anything from Mexico; the former Mexican territory was won by the blood of young Americans like the ones who fought World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and are now engaged in Iraq. The seven southwestern states are American land, not "their land."

This despite what the pro-Mexican and Hispanic racist groups like La Raza, Aztlan, Lulac and La Mecha teach their uninformed young Spanish-speaking students in our own American public schools. Shame, shame, shame!

It is exactly how Adolf Hitler indoctrinated his people to kill anyone who opposed the German view of the world as he shouted, "Deutschland Uber Alles lebersraum!" (Germany over all and living room!). This is KKK American Nazi or Black Panther talk. As Sgt. Friday said, "Just the facts, ma'am... just the facts."

You are correct. The stole it from the Spanish(Cortez conqured the Aztex),who in turn stole it from the native americans. The aztex(mexican descendants) didnt live this far north. Spain was the country that moved north, mexico just stole it from them.Mexico attacked Texas, got their ass kicked, lost their capital city, and has to agree to terms. This is US land and always will be and people will go to war over this if they try an insurrection. By the way mexico and their little 5th column here would get annihilated in a modern war with the US military(we are much more powerful now that when we fought mexico, they are not).It would be easier than kicking the Iraqis and Talibans ass. We already have air dominance and control the ocean completely. The little gang bangers in cali. wouldnt last a day in fallujah much less against our army and marines. The military would destroy them wholesale and they need to realize that the US government is authorized to "put down" any insurrection by military force ever since the civil war.If I see anyone hoisting the mexican flag over the US flag here I will probably go to jail because I am in the air force and find it extremely offensive and treasonous.

[I wouldn't be too sure of that. Does any of this Mexican stuff going on now bear any resemblence to the America we grew up in? I wouldn't put anything past this President, at least based on his actions so far.]

I suppose some of what you say has merit. I was raised and spent over half my life in So Cal in a town with a large Mexican population. Things have changed greatly but I don't believe the average Mexican American agrees with these radical groups.

As to our President agreeing to demands by these radical groups, I will never believe it. Trying to work out the problems of illegal immigrants in our country is a far different thing than ceding our land.

If they want it so bad, tell them to bring their military to the border and try and take it. Lets see who wins. Next time will demand all of Mexico, less its inhabitants who will be free to move south into South America.

And the Mexicans who were originally there, stole it from somebody else.

The fact that connection is very seldom made is a source of continual amazement to me. Every present-day nation in the world resulted from someone stealing that land from its'original inhabitants.

But only the USA is held before the world as a negative example of murderous colonialism. What about Australia, where aboriginals were shot (or much worse!) for sport? What about Brazil which for years pursued an official policy of genocide against indigenous populations? What about Rwanda and dozens of other countries where genocide for territory is an accepted way of life?

No, only the politically correct anti-American class (Democrats and friends including the UN) want to tear down this country. I am getting very close to the end of my rope with this behavior.

"Hostilities continued for two years as General Taylor Scott led American troops to engage Mexican forces in New Mexico"

LOL, the writer has morphed two generals into one. It was General Winfield Scott and General Zachery Taylor. NOT General Taylor Scott. (maybe he just left out the word "and" between Taylor and Scott)

We don't have to do any thing. If Hispanics keep coming and having children, who will be citizens, sooner or later this WILL BE a Hispanic Country.

If 40% of Californians are Hispanic and whites continue to move out it wont take 30 years for California to be Hispanic. There are 35 million Hispanics in the USA.

I may not live to see it, I am in my 80s, but I would say 10 years will almost do it. The Hispanics don't have 1 or 2 children they usually have more. Here in N.C. when I see them in this small town, they usually have two,3, and even 4. These are small children, Not old enough for school. Further more they all are speaking Spanish.

I would assume these children ARE citizens even if their parents may be green carded or perhaps illegal.

The school age children here, they speak Spanish among themselves. All of the adult Hispanics in the stores speak Spanish to each other.

So if they are assimilating they are not insisting that their children practice what they are learning.Just from observing them.

This may be good or bad for the country. We will just have to wait and see.

They are hard workers, but I truly believe, whether planned or not they will be the majority in this country in a few years.

I'm with you. Anyone defacing or depracating the flag of the USA evokes a visceral reaction within me that is difficult to control. I was nearly arrested when I confronted a group of hippy-wanna-be unwashed filth who were flying a US flag upside down outside of a Bush-Cheney rally.

DJ, I don't know what to say...I totally agree with you. I PRAY that more people wake up to this. Complacency disgusts me. I WANT to see that sleeping giant in America awake and take action. Whatever action is needed...take it.

When Mexico became independent of Spain, the majority people people living in what is now the southwestern USA were Indians. Indians could assert that the Spanish--and Mexico--had "stolen" their land. When Stephen Austin obtained a charter of a colony in Texas and began to bring in Anglo-settlers, most of Texas was controlled or threatened by the Comanches. The Americans were invited in because Mexico were unable to defend their settlements against the Comanches. By 1836 the majority of people in Texas were Anglos.

"I live in a small farm town in Nelson County, Virginia, and will retire from the Virginia Army National Guard in April 2006, after 22 years. I have spent almost one half of my adult life preparing myself and my soldiers for a time, such as now, that our country might successfully face our enemies, foreign and domestic.

Looking at your webpage this morning and seeing the pictures of the high school students raising a Mexican national flag over an upside down American flag saddened me terribly, insofar as there are American soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen currently putting their lives in danger in order to provide these "citizens" the comfort of knowing that their protests will not result in being lined up against a wall and executed for their behavior, as they might in other countries around the world.

What would be interesting to know is if these young men and women are enjoying their educations on the back of the American taxpayer at a public school, while denigrating the country that provides these benefits to them, and so blatantly desecrating the flag that serves as a beacon to draw them to America in the first place."

http://sessions.senate.gov/pressapp/record.cfm?id=253171&&

“The American people are counting on us to secure our borders and restore the rule of law to our immigration system. The Senate Judiciary Committee today let the American people down by passing out a blanket amnesty bill. We've been down this path several times before, and it proved a failure.
“There was a real opportunity to take the steps necessary to fix our failed immigration enforcement system and while progress was made, we did not get there. The proper approach is to first fix the enforcement system and then to undertake a national discussion about immigration, considering how to justly handle those here illegally and what rules should govern future immigration levels. We also have not effectively dealt with the national security issues.

“I voted against the committee passed legislation because it rewards illegal behavior, will be considered amnesty by the people and will not restore respect for law. Fortunately, the House of Representatives has passed a solid bill, and there will be an opportunity to improve the Senate version in the days to come.”

http://tancredo.house.gov/irc/welcome.htm

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Real Conservatives FINALLY
have a winning ticket in '08

Time for the real conservatives on FR,
be it Republicans, Independents or Democrats
(like Zell Miller and John O'Neill) to band together
and oust the looney left and RINO's

The "Politically Correct RINO's" on FR are the same group
who "swore"
klintoon, hitlery, hanoi kerry, sanbdi ber(bur)glar, al bore, jane beno,
would be prosecuted for
pardongate, chinagate, the bribes in upstate NY in the 2000 NY Senate race, waco, etc, etc,
"when" the "time was right".

NOW the The "Politically Correct RINO's" on FR
want YOU to actually support the "plan" to reward illegal "guest workers"
with a "path" to citizenship.

How could an illegal be a "guest" of anything?

What part of criminal don't RINO's understand?

When asked about immigration in debate before the houses of congress, Bush APOLOGIZED. He said he was sorry. Then he let loose with a unintelligible remark about bird flu, avian flu, and how they were going to combat that scourge of the US and Mexico. What a maroon...........or as my father would have put it, a liar, dog and a ####ass. I am embarrassed to have voted for this man twice. It matters not that Kerry or Gore would have been elected if not for GW, I am still embarrassed to be part of the process that brought this dimwit to the fore.

I agree. The US gov't is not going to cede any territories to Mexico.

However, while the illegal immigrants are supposedly coming here for economic reasons, I do believe that Presidente Fox and thinkers of his ilk believe that slow immigration will eventually make the US a Hispanic nation. It might take years but they are thinking long term.
