"Contrary to conventional wisdom, minorities and the poor overwhelmingly favor a get tough approach on illegal immigration"

They REALLY mean "Contrary to GWB's incessant drubbing..."

In this area of Michigan there are a lot of second, third, and even fourth generation American hispanics whos families came to work during WWII. All of them that I know are vehemently opposed to illegal immigration.

Obvious. Who do you think is most affected by illegal immigration? Simple, those who don't have nannies, and homes, and gardeners.

Of course minorities and the poor dislike illegal immigrants - illegals are sucking up all the social spending and garner more favor amongst politicians.

Look at the debate right now - most people want a crackdown on immigration and how is Congress responding????

I have over 10 Mexicans working for me. All are legal, about half are citizens born here. They all earn $35K to $40K per year. Not exactly low income. The citizens are sympathetic to the illegals. My green card workers are violently opposed to illegal immigration. They're angry that they had to go thru a long process and the illegals just skip accross the border and get benefits they can't.

I have the exact same situation in my life. It is so hurtful to see Mexican families who have been here longer than my own family be fearful, to see them hurry to explain their personal business.

What gives kneejerking bigots the right to scare decent family people just because of the way they look? Because of their last names? I pointed out the fact that the first soldier to die in the Iraq War was Mexican, and was told that it was "totally irrelevant". It is "relevant" to me because my own son just came back from his second tour in Iraq this week. His unit has many Mexicans, and they are my son's wartime pals, a kind of bond many here should understand, but since the MSM is whipping this up, won't.

Everyone involved is so busy braying their points. I'd like to see people shut up and listen to the plans put forth, and work together. The Dems are laughing up their sleeves over our fragmented stand on this issue.

I have a feeling you wouldn't like to hear the names the American hispanics call illegals then. LOL

In this area of Michigan

Democrats face a minefield of paradoxes in Michigan. The party claims to represent workers which presumably includes Delphi workers about to lose their jobs while trying to return to glory days by touting an illegal immigrant Civil Rights movement that ultimately increases competition for remaining jobs.

This article once again demonstrates that all the elites want is cheap labor, the working poor get it, hell just about everyone gets it except a few mushy headed "why can't we all just get along","we are the world" liberals.

Adrian Mi. has a large hispanic population that has been on equal standings with everybody else and now face unfair competition from illegals just like the rest of us. They weren't picking fruit. They were working in factories at the same pay rates as everybody else.

One factory was raided by the INS and 26 illegals were arrested.

That's what I keep trying to tell everyone. Phoenix has always been a mixed population. Mexicans are part of the heritage of this city and you will find no one who is more anti-illegal immigration than the LEGAL Mexican community.

Bump. Everyone but the ruling elite (free nanies for the rich) class understand his. Pisses me off when the racists that think all people of Hispanic origin are the same call me a racist for wanted to stop an invasion of illegal aliens.

I am saying that it's a damn shame that Mexican families have to be afraid or explain themselves to the self appointed "legal" police. And I don't mean the Minutemen. I mean the lowlifes who glare at some young Hispanic bussing a table.
Just because they can. The MSM has driven this story, and all the "free thinkers" are right on board.

I happen to be one step off the boat myself, but that's nobody's damn business, either. All that NINA is still a touchy subject in my family. I married a guy who is from an Italian family. He is pretty sensitive about WOP, an acronym meaning, "With Out Papers". It was very bad for our parents and grandparents, but my old Nan used to say that nobody loves America like an immigrant. Thank God there was no 24/7 cable news back then. Now, it is time to be all kinds of upset about Mexican people. They've been here forever, so let's all get upset about this now. Total BS.

The only plan worth considering is one that only includes these provisions: a) Deport illegals. b) Arrest, prosecute, and incarcerate employers that hire illegals.

Unions are not looking forward to membership increase, just more Democrat votes.
Are you aware of the drywaller's strike in Southern California?
