It was wrong in the first place for this Islamofascist republic Turkey to join the project. They have opposed the Iraq War, opposed use of force through the country, and is now approaching, Syria, Iran, and even Hamas. They have also threat to invade northern portions of Iraq during the first few months of Iraq War, which may have resulted in a clash between US and Turkish force. Turkey is no more a strategic partner, and has very strong trends of Anti-Americanism and Anti-semitism. Why provide a country JSF projects that is heading toward neo-Nazism. Pentagon should eliminate Turkey from the project and prohibit Turkey from purchasing F-35. Turkey is likely to head toward a more anti-American, Islamist country that will do no favor of US. There is only disadvantage for Turkey to be part of it.

I agree, I wouldn't sell the F-35 to Turkey, let them buy something else.
To: Wiz
Turkey made its bed, now let them sleep in it.

To treat an Allie or business partner differently than others just because they are "Arab" could make you Xenophobic.

I'm with you in spirit, but we have to deal with the Muslim world
I support the Iraq invasion for that very reason
To bring the Muslims into the world we must engage them at all levels, from conquering them in war, to dealing with them as allies.
Turkey is a bridge between the two worlds, we have to work at bringing its internal balance to wards our favor.
Our focus is on a distant future, and we are willing to risk certain immediate subjects today, in an attempt to keep a bridge to the Middle East.

I agree, but to treat them differently because if their recent actions is a different story. They choose not to allow us to use their soil to move into Iraq from the north so we choose not to sell them our aircraft.

But that was so looong ago. They important US partner in the WoT. Boy for somebody calling FReepers bad names on the "port deal" you sounding like a racist and undermining our troops.

Even though Arabs are a minority in Turkey, it wasn't the point...nor were they my words, but an older quote from Echo Talon from the Dubai threads.

They're not "Islamofascists" either - Turkey has one of the few semi-stable secular democratic governments in the entire region. Of course, if that's a problem for us, we can always start treating them like mortal enemies, and watch how quickly they become enemies. For the moment, the Turks are standing against the real Islamofascists, so let's not get stupid and toss them out with the trash just yet. They may not always support everything we do, just as we don't always support everything they do, but that's just how things tend to go in the world of international relations.
To: Wiz
I lived in Turkey for a year, and I agree with you.
To: endthematrix
maybe you should put things into context, also maybe you think that selling stealthy airplanes is the same as the "port deal" please explain.
To: Echo Talon
I just remeber you calling FReepers racist (xenophobic at best)and underming the WoT for opposition to giving a US ally carte blanche in economic edvevors. As a member of NATO, Turkey has helped maintain regional peace and security.

Then you probably missed the Turka Cola CM, Valley of the Wolves, rise of the Islamist AKP party, and the publications of anti-semitism and anti-Americanism making a hit in Turkey. Why are you also ignoring the fact that Turkey invited Hamas members, and months ago which Turkey slammed on Israel regaring Palestine issues? Do you really think Turkey is democratic, with the military really in power? Even democratic or not, it will be no advantage to maintain relationship with Turkey with strong anti-Americanism and anti-semitism in Turkey today. You probably also missed news for Turkey engaging improvements of relations with Syria. I don't want to hear small news imitating democracy of Turkey. you should go read some publications provided from MEMRI to know the reality of Turkey today. I just have missed so many news.

So by all means, let's throw gas on the fire and give those groups some help by refusing to deal with the democratically elected secular Turkish government.
Your shortsightedness would have us throw them to the wolves. You have the makings of a remarkable self-fulfilling prophecy there - treat them like outlaws, and they'll inevitably become outlaws for real. We have enough enemies as it is. Let's not manufacture more.
To: endthematrix
Turkey has not been of much help lately, France is also a member of NATO and they have undermined us at every turn. The UAE on the other hand has been helping us.
To: Senator Bedfellow
Don't throw them to the wolves but don't reward bad behavior either. only our staunchest allies should get the f-35, if it were up to me I'd block all sales of it to every country and give those countries back their investments + interest. Give GB back their $2billion+interest and say, sorry but we aren't going to export these aircraft. As far as Turkey goes let them buy the F-16 or eurofighter.
