The Turkish defence industry will be so reliant on work on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) that if it does not get access to a greater potential share of subcontracts for the next-generation fighter it could suffer badly, a top Turkish defence industry official has said.
If they do not get more work on the JSF, "they will be left out in the cold", Bayar said at the annual American Turkish Council conference in Washington, DC.
"They will have small minor projects they could take part in, but if they don't have a role in JSF that would be bad news" for the major defence companies in Turkey, Bayar said.
He noted that Turkey will decide this year whether to proceed with a contract for production and sustainment of the JSF; the perceived low level of Turkish industrial co-operation would be a factor in that decision, he said.

I agree, I wouldn't sell the F-35 to Turkey, let them buy something else.
Turkey made its bed, now let them sleep in it.
To treat an Allie or business partner differently than others just because they are "Arab" could make you Xenophobic.
I'm with you in spirit, but we have to deal with the Muslim world
I support the Iraq invasion for that very reason
To bring the Muslims into the world we must engage them at all levels, from conquering them in war, to dealing with them as allies.
Turkey is a bridge between the two worlds, we have to work at bringing its internal balance to wards our favor.
Our focus is on a distant future, and we are willing to risk certain immediate subjects today, in an attempt to keep a bridge to the Middle East.
I agree, but to treat them differently because if their recent actions is a different story. They choose not to allow us to use their soil to move into Iraq from the north so we choose not to sell them our aircraft.
Turks aren't Arabs.
Even though Arabs are a minority in Turkey, it wasn't the point...nor were they my words, but an older quote from Echo Talon from the Dubai threads.
I lived in Turkey for a year, and I agree with you.
maybe you should put things into context, also maybe you think that selling stealthy airplanes is the same as the "port deal" please explain.
I just remeber you calling FReepers racist (xenophobic at best)and underming the WoT for opposition to giving a US ally carte blanche in economic edvevors. As a member of NATO, Turkey has helped maintain regional peace and security.
Then you probably missed the Turka Cola CM, Valley of the Wolves, rise of the Islamist AKP party, and the publications of anti-semitism and anti-Americanism making a hit in Turkey. Why are you also ignoring the fact that Turkey invited Hamas members, and months ago which Turkey slammed on Israel regaring Palestine issues? Do you really think Turkey is democratic, with the military really in power? Even democratic or not, it will be no advantage to maintain relationship with Turkey with strong anti-Americanism and anti-semitism in Turkey today. You probably also missed news for Turkey engaging improvements of relations with Syria. I don't want to hear small news imitating democracy of Turkey. you should go read some publications provided from MEMRI to know the reality of Turkey today. I just have missed so many news.
So by all means, let's throw gas on the fire and give those groups some help by refusing to deal with the democratically elected secular Turkish government.
Your shortsightedness would have us throw them to the wolves. You have the makings of a remarkable self-fulfilling prophecy there - treat them like outlaws, and they'll inevitably become outlaws for real. We have enough enemies as it is. Let's not manufacture more.
Turkey has not been of much help lately, France is also a member of NATO and they have undermined us at every turn. The UAE on the other hand has been helping us.
