I have lived in the Bronx (while an undergrad) and the South Side of Chicago (Grad School). I have been to Anacostia, North St. Louis, Springfield Avenue in Newark, and Detroit. Nevertheless, Liberty City is, without a doubt the WORST urban neighborhood in America. This is where the McDuffie Riots took place in 1980. You see some of the scariest most zonked out folks living in abandoned houses that were built as part of the post WWII real estate boom.

Thankfully, my years in Miami were spent near Doral Country Club, where the worst thing that would happen was a golf ball going through your window. Not all of Miami-Dade County is that bad, its just that the worst areas (North County-Liberty City, Goulds, Overtown, etc.) are VERY bad.

And getting worse, thanks to the Dems who run the county like a fiefdom. Broward is better, but not that much better.

What a beautiful little child! "Daddy" should have his arms and legs removed, heavily tarred, feathered, then dropped from a high bridge into a shallow river!

Considering that Miami-Dade County is home to the most expensive real estate in the entire state of Florida (with Condo and housing prices that have skyrocketed over the past five years) be careful painting with such a broad brush. Besides, its the only county in South Florida that sends Republicans to the state house. Jeb won Miami-Dade County twice, something that can't be said of neighboring Broward or Palm Beach.

Its the only place I would live in Florida were I to move back (my parents live in the liberal hell hole of Boca Raton).

Design is fine, its the execution thats faulty.

The design is faulty in many, many ways. To expand on this, I'd have to get into a discussion of predestination vs. free will.

And how did they look on the radio?

FReeRepublic is a radio station? The link given is to a radio station? Who knew?

You're grasping. You give the good name of redneck a bad taste. I had an uncle and still have a cousin who's a redneck, they come by the term honestly. They do/did an honest days work on the family ranch running cattle and raising different crops.

Broward is better, but not that much better.

The areas along the beach and intercoastal are nice. Coral Springs and Coconut Creek are OK (though controlled by liberals). The rest of the county s-cks IMHO.

In other words, in terms of quality of life, Broward and Miami-Dade are about equal. The only things slightly better about Miami-Dade are 1. The nightlife and 2. The fact that there are actually Republican districts, unlike Broward. When I lived in Doral, it was the first time I had GOP representation in the state house, state Senate (the great Rudy Garcia) and Congress.

Besides, the hottest women live in Coral Gables and Key Biscayne. :-)

dear mr. "redneck",
and what do you say when people who are white or some other race abandon their children? or when black parents do a good job of parenting?

you are giving rednecks a bad name.
you might consider changing your screen name to "hitech racist".

I am not sure what that has to do with a child but ok. Somtimes local news takes it for granted about these things and don't report the race because most people who live there already know who lives where. Understand? So if you don't live in that area you may not get the full picture. It's not a conspiracy against you and it's not always a PC thing. The media is very fickle and that's just how it is.

Now, now. You left out Pembroke Pines--so what if we have what was once the country's most dangerous road intersection?

it seems odd that they would care to talk about the beads in her hair

Talk about ass u me...what if she'd had pink ribbons and they mentioned that? Or in your world do only caucasion children have pink ribbons and not white beads?

A friend of mine who moved from Hialeah to Pembroke Pines and then to suburban Chicago used to call it "Pembroke Slimes." Its not that bad of a place (much better than Miramar and less pretentious than the OVERRATED town of Weston!).

a good point.
it's probably even true that the media put in little racial details instead of saying the name of the race.
i've noticed that trick in the new york times. (whether the times does it consciously, or unconsciously, i don't know.)
but this "redneck" guy is clearly obsessed with race, and seems to think that anyone who disagrees with him is some sort of PC fanatic!

I really should watch my language and my thoughts. Being an orphan now, I know what's it like to be without family for the first time in one's life. Still, there is a difference between being an adult and having your parents die as a result of natural deaths and being abandoned because its too much bother for your parents to take care of you. The latter situation is one of child abandonment and children are human beings, not trash to be discarded at the side of the road. If you don't feel you are up to the responsibility of raising a child, don't have children! Once you do, its a lifetime responsibility.

Dear Mr. HiTech,

Since you have brought race into the story, I believe you need to do some self examination.

In viewing the picture of the abandoned child, I see a beautiful bronzed american.

It might just be possible that the child has a darker skinned mother and a white father.

If the father turns out to be white skinned, are all white skinned fathers capable of abandoning their children?

I believe you owe an apology to all fathers, except for the one who abandoned this precious little girl.

Hey sometimes it's blatant. Other times they leave out race because hey if it happens where you live and it's 99% black, the person is probably black (whether's it's perp or victim). You're right about the Times too!
