I hope you know what I mean.

Legitimate debate has an element of useful exchange

The other comparison is more about the entrenched "edu-berators."

I mention religion only because I belive it's more useful as discussion as opposed to "debate."

I know what you meant, I simply amplified and re-directed some of your comments as an example of what happens all too often when I offer my comments.

It's the evil conservative side of me.. ;-o

I hear ya. I'm series as all get out. (No, not really.-)

The media portray conservatives this way all the time.

If we could only tax everyone to the hilt, the homeless and illegals and terrorists wouldn't be so exploited and abused and maligned is the left's and demRats mantra.. Then they would all love us.
NOT!

But please stop dragging out the RINO card

I think many who use the term RINO are simply being polite. Oft times the term is used in connection with a Republican liberal.

tell me when - the Republican party is going to stop eating itself from within.

The Republican divide, essentially an ideological rift between the California Republican Party leadership and registered Republicans in California, will cease when the CRP leadership stops admitting and supporting liberals to candidacy under their banner.

A few more Austrians and the party will cease to be significant in California.

I'll be directing my focus and efforts against the Democrats, period, and in support of the elected officals battling them in the trenches.

Nothing wrong with that attitude but it's a little misplaced on this forum.

Freepers are directing their focus and efforts against liberals regardless of party registering. We do battle against liberals and sometimes, yes, the enemy of our enemy is occasionally treated with deference.

The Austrian, who is as liberal as a Republican is legally allowed to get, receives occasional praise from forum members when he does something that advances conservatism, even though his motives for those actions are never ideological.

By all means, go forward and crush Democrats, but a little zag once in a while, to flatten a liberal Republican, huddling with his buddies on the other side of the aisle, is also good for our state.

More edu-beration in the name of the forum.
::sigh:::

I'll take my directive from our host, thank you.

The special K folks are so shrill and cult like that they lend themselves to the comments they seek.

There are at least three good conservative candidates.
Instead of giving good word for each in the race against
a leftwing Dem., the special K folks are assuring a democrat win. and worse, most of these folks don't even live in San Diego.

If this were a state wide race, I might feel differently about "outsiders."
OTOH this race could put a bonafide conservative in Congress, which is good for, and concerns, everyone, imo.

I don't begrudge anyone their favorite, but I agree, the trashing of the candidates smells to high heaven.

Sure would love to know how it's really playing out to the actual voters in the 50th.

Francine Busby must be licking her chops.

The response is neither surprising nor amusing. It's simply characteristic.

A political partisan challenges the partisan loyalty of a conservative, on a non partisan, conservative pitch, and asks for reasoned debate ... on their terms.

When the obvious flaw in the partisan's plea is highlighted, the partisan attacks the character of the conservative challengers and then flees for the cover of authority. Facts are always absent.

If conservatism is to triumph in the political arena, the first act that conservatives need to clean up is their own, Norm had every right to post an article about a family feud within a political party. especially when that feuding is centered around partisan, not ideological arguments.

And yes, Senator McClintock, helped neither his party nor his ideology by publicly pointing out an apparent misnomer in Kaloogian's campaign. The senator should have done it privately. He didn't and there's reason to explore why. A legitimate reason. The error is the Senator's or Kaloogian's, not Norm's

An edu-berator twaddles lengthy posts to look like an authority.

Hey hey hey my fellow FReepers.

There's no need for anyone to feel bad about any of this.

It's much ado about nothing but the media (and the competing campaigns in this race) want to stir it up to make a big Republican infighting. It's nothing of the sort.

First of all this is what happened. Howard Kaloogian has a mailer that has a section that says "Respected by Conservative Leaders" along with a small picture (headshot) of McClintock and includes a quote from McClintock which is included in this excerpt from the North County Times and many other newspapers:

McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, called Kaloogian, who chaired the Recall Gray Davis Committee, "one of the most principled, courageous and steadfast leaders in our state." North County Times Citation of McClintock Quote

Kaloogian and Morrow have since been in contact. There are NO hard feelings. Obviously Morrow and others in this race went to Tom to protest that Tom was picking sides and Tom said 'no, I didn't know Howard was including that and so I will go set the record straight that I'm neutral.'

So I want to make it clear to everyone that there was NEVER ANY claim of endorsement of McClintock for anyone - Kaloogian, Morrow or otherwise.

Second - McClintock has been very gracious towards Kaloogian since this all happened even though I know neither one wishes this would happen (since they have been very good friends).

Let me get this stright, Tom... so Howard was good enough to endorse for the Senate 2 years ago but not for the House now?

Two questions:

1) Why would Morrow, like McClintock, also want Kaloogian to remove his (Morrow's) likeness and quotes from the campaign mailer?

2) Why isn't Morrow endorsing Kaloogian?

Morrow moved 3 months ago from Darrell Issa's congressional district to the 50th district so he could get in the race and run.

Pretty sad. There was a Free Republic thread here a few months ago where it was pointed out he claimed to live in a city outside of this district. Right after FReepers pointed it out Morrow updated his website.

He ran against Issa and lost. Now he's running against Kaloogian for the 50th and he had to move really quick to do so.

Last poll that came out had Morrow with 3% of the vote. So that tells you it aint working out to well for Morrow.

It's too bad. Morrow's been a solid guy for conservatives. But he's now termed out and has no future job prospects so he's taking a shot at this congressional seat.

The media reported in the last week that his campaign has run out of money too.

P.S. Morrow isn't featured in any Kaloogian mailers. There's a section called "Testimonials" on Kaloogian's website and it includes a quote taken from Morrow praising Kaloogian's record of fighting for conservative causes. Check it out under Testimonials at: www.KaloogianForCongress.com

"A few more Austrians and the party will cease to be significant in California."

I suggest forming a committee, to study the Austrian problem.

The first two on the committee should be Governor Simon and Governor McClintock. Not to mention Senator Lundgren.

Now you add who you want on the committee.

I suggest the topic is: "How to enforce idealogic purity, in a shrinking party"

No need. The Austrian problem has been examined for almost 3 years and the solution remains the same.

Don't vote for a liberal.

Some conservatives did three years ago. This time they won't.

Ugh. Thanks for the info.

Again, thanks.

>> Let me get this stright, Tom... so Howard was good enough to endorse for the Senate 2 years ago but not for the House now? <<

Two years ago, Howard was the ONLY solid conservative in the Senate race (the other candidates were RINO Rosario Marin and center-right establishment Republican Bill Jones) This time around, Howard is one of MANY candidates with solid conservative credentials to seek this House seat.

Two years ago, Howard was running with the Davis recall fresh in voters minds and had only recently been out of office. Now the ercall that saddled us with Davis-clone Ahnuld is yesterday's news and Howard's been away from elective office for quite some time, while Morrow's been at the forefront every day the Assembly is in session.

Alot of things have changed in two years. Tom McClintock noticed, I guess you didn't. Pat Buchanan found this out the hard way when he thought his 1996 "base" would do whatever he wanted in 2000.
