Mexican flag burned after week of protests

Associated Press Mar. 31, 2006 07:10 AM

Tensions over immigration got a little heated Thursday in Apache Junction.

A Mexican flag was brought to school by a Hispanic student in response to what he said was a racist remark directed at him the day before. After he and other students raised the flag on the school's flagpole, the newspaper said another group of students took it down and burned it.

The burning and ensuing shoving match between the two groups of students happened before most students arrived at the school.

The school's principal said all six students involved will be disciplined.

Security was beefed up after the incident but there were no other problems at the school Thursday.

The flag burning represented the ..."equal or opposite reaction". Glad it happened.

Most people in this country are so politically correct they would not know an act of action in defending and standing up to our country if it bit them in the arse.

BTTT. You are absolutely right. We arent talking about the flag being bought at a store and then publically burned here, or taken from private property and then burned. We are talking about an act of war and a declaration of victory by the enemy with in by hoisting a foreign flag on not just public, but government property, which BTW I believe is illegal.

For everbody crying about this burning I urge you to read up on American law.

The local Phoenix radio station just read an email supposedly from one of the mothers of a kid who attends the school. This is her story.

The US flag was flying over a building used for ROTC. It was lowered and replaced with the Mexican flag.

Seeing this, another group of students lowered the Mexican flag and raised the US flag again.

That led to the same exchange again, and when the US flag got raised for the second time replacing the Mexican flag, the students burned the Mexican flag to stop it from being raised again.

Can't vouch for this account, but it's what's on the radio here in Phoenix.

If they want to raise the Mexican Flag they should GTF back to Mexico and have at it.

I have no objections to Mexicans raising a Mexican flag at their home, but at an American Public School the American flag is the one that should be flying.

Uh...it wasn't stolen...they left it FLYING where our flag was. Therefore...they abandoned it as TRASH

And appropriately so - it is trash.

All this "don't do what our enemies do" garbage is surprising on this thread. If I catch anybody removing the US flag and replacing it with a foreign flag, I'm going to remove the foreign flag and burn it, too. I don't really care how it "makes us look". It doesn't belong on public property, and it certainly doesn't belong on a taxpayer-funded flagpole designated for use with the American flag.

Normally burning a flag is a silly act of protest, but when you take down an American Flag and replace it with a flag from a foreign country, then that flag needs to be taken down and burned. It would be a desecration of the American flag to not burn it. It had to be burned and I am glad there were some patriotic teenagers who saw the need and risked much to get the job done.

Now we need to treat the culprits who raised that foreign flag as the insurrectionsts that they are. We simply cannot tolerate this. It is one thing to wave a flag as a symbol of your heritage, it is quite another to raise it as an act of victory over our the United States.

The American flag must NEVER be brought down and replaced with any foreign flag on American Soil. Never!!!!!! That is an act of war. It always has been and always will be.

Well said, P-Marlowe,

I absolutely agree. Again, as I said a few posts above, I wasn't saying what the kids did was wrong, just that it sucks that we have to be the ones burning someone else's flag on our American soil.

I agree with that, 100%. They still should not have burned it though.

When that someone else places his property on a flagpole that belongs to Americans , he has given that flag away to whatever happens to it.. If he wants it he should keep it in his possession.

Those who want to live under a Mexican flag may do so everyday in Mexico. Don't pretend to want United States citizenship or to stay in the U.S. while flying the Mexican flag.

When a foreigner or someone with loyalty to another country takes down the American flag on US soil and raises the flag of a foreign country, that is a symbol of victory and an act of war. It is a symbol that the United States is no longer sovereign over that piece of real estate.

Exactly. I for one am certainly not looking for or rooting for violence at all, but the Aztlan crowd is clearly getting bolder and bolder with each passing year. If they continue down this road they're going down by deliberately provoking America, they're playing with fire, and it's going to be just a matter of time before a real tragedy happens.

I didn't see any homicidal maniac shooters wearing black Matrix trench coats and spraying their schools full of bullets. Did you?

In what school in Apache Junction did this incident occur?
Where are the names? Where is the who what when where why of this story?
It's just another inflammatory headline, and I'm not buying.
I walked out of my high school during the Kent State Moratorium because everybody else was doing it. I didn't have a single political thought in my head because I was just a clueless teenager who thought it was more a party than a protest. I just wanted the day off. Has anything like that ever happened to you?

___________________________________________________________

Completely MISSED the point, but you DID make my point. What you preceive as children in your mind no longer applies in many instances today. The high school kids in Columbine, in your mind, may have been homicidal maniac shooters...but they were still children. NOT.

We know these were teens...there are no teens in middle school. Well, there shouldn't be anyway.

Just a thought, but raising the flag of a nation over a land is declaring that land for that nation. While this has not been the Mexican government raising the flag, I have not heard any condemnation from Vicente Fox nor have I heard any outcry from Latino groups over the flag raising's.

Burning the flag of another nation may go against our grain, but we better wake up to what is actually going on by these MEChA and La Raza groups before we find ourselves living within the borders of Northern Mexico.

We can't afford to roll over on this and expect a "peaceful dialogue" from radical groups bent on claiming nearly the entire west coast for Mexico.

And if they don't like that and start pushing or punching or kicking, the enemy will realize we're serious. I hope they understand they have declared war, and we are going to fight for America.

Too late. Congress is gonna make all the illegals legal. It's a short jump from there to making them voters. It's gonna happen.

A significant percentage of the illegals in the US have already voted for Bush twice.
