Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) was online Thursday, March 30, to discuss his position on the immigration reform bills under consideration in Congress. Tancredo is chairman of the 92-member House Immigration Reform Caucus. He has advocated a major increase in border security spending, the hiring of more Border Patrol agents, and the building of a security barrier along the entire length of the border. Tancredo supported a bill passed by the House in December that would impose stiffer fines for employers who hire illegal aliens, add new mandatory minimum sentences for immigrant smugglers, and mandate automatic detention and deportation for immigrants caught crossing the border illegally. In addition the House bill would add mandatory sentences for illegal immigrants who re-renter the country after being deported. Tancredo opposes current Senate proposals that would implement a foreign guest worker program, broaden legal immigration, and provide amnesty to illegal aliens currently in the United States.
The transcript follows.
Congressman Tom Tancredo: Hi, this is Congressman Tom Tancredo. Thanks for joining me.
Rockville, Md.: Dear Congressman, I have been in this country for over 10 years - college education and work. Each step of the way, I have maintained my legal status. I am now in Year Three of (im)patiently waiting for my green card to be processed. It is discouraging to see that the proposed Senate bill rewards "illegals" but ignores the law-abiding immigrants (at least on their way to be through the correct channels). What are your thoughts on this?
Congressman Tom Tancredo: You've hit the nail on the head. This is one of the key problems with amnesty: it rewards people who have broken the law, and makes a mockery of our legal system and those immigrants, such as yourself, who came here legally. Worst of all, it encourages more illegal behavior.

I LOVE your tagline. Jim should adopt it as the FR banner!

Tancredo for President.
Divide and conquer... it's that simple... not that it is not a very important problem.

So in your book a Mexican controlled Fifth Column in American electoral politics is a 'demagogueish' concern ?
You're not exactly unbiased toward the illegals, are you?
Gee.. Did I say that??
Nope.. You did..
Looks like we've created our own little plo, or is it mlo??
One thing Mr. Tancredo believes in is the rule of law and the basic American ideal that "all men are equal under the law". That principle, which is the foundation stone for a free people, is being damaged by the efforts of our current president and other open border advocates. I applaud Mr. Tancredo for taking a courageous stand. He articulates his position with class and dignity.
If we're not careful, we might.. It's not like the Leftists wouldn't just love it..
Demagogues play on the swell of public opinion for their own purposes.. Most of them don't believe what they profess, they're just in it for the power, or the money...
Anyone that wishes to look at my "in forum" comments will see quite plainly what my position is on this issue..
Priority #1 is to Secure the Border(s)...
Second, enforce existing immigration law..
We don't need new legislation on immigration, we need to actually enfore the law..
Show me that's been tried first... Then we'll talk reform..
Lastly, NO AMNESTY..
Don't try changing the name, that won't work..
I have a dictionary and a Thesaurus..
If it walks, talks and smells like amnesty, I'll know it..
For all that, I have absolutely no animosity against Mexicans..
Law-abiding, legal immigrants are welcome... From whatever country they originate..
I would even accept "favored nation status" for Mexico, allowing a greater amount of immigrants from that country than some others in the world..
My opinion, my vote..
I think your right that it will play out that way. Bush and the other open border advocates are creating an Israeli - Palestinian environment on the west coast and throughout other pockets of the country. Since these radical Mexican groups will be militarily impotent, like the Palestinians, their only option to advance their goal is to scare people off the land. I'm afraid they may resort to the same terrorist tactics that has been ongoing in Israel for now well past 30 years.
Pretty popular on this forum as well now that JimRob has lightened up on his pro immigration stance.
Sure it works so well to cement Canada together. They have a separatist vote up there ever few years, sooner or later it will carry
If you don't think that is coming here then you must be opposed to that outcome here.
Name a politician who doesn't ask for money.
Gee.. Did I say that??
Yes, you did. He just translated it for you.
Absolutely. Imagine: A president who thinks about Americans and what's best for Americans first. It's a different approach and I think I could get used to the idea quickly.
Who wants more illegals? Not me. But, got to use a little common sense once in a while. The Tancredo approach, this all or nothing nonsense, will cause us to end up with nothing, which, of course is Tom`s plan.
