I agree, re: the overgrown toddlers in DC.

Still, I can't see the problem how someone spends their personal time (or chooses to dress, etc.) if the basics of life and responsibilities are attended to.

I can only speak for myself, but I've always been sort of "out of the box" and very quirky. Never will change, couldn't if I tried--and even then, can't see a reason to do so. Maybe I'll be 90 and still wearing Misfits shirts and Chuck T's (with my Fresh n' Easy Big Girl Pull Ups). What's the alternative? Sans-a-belt slacks and Easy Spirit slip ons? Flowered house dresses and fuzzy slippers? Christmas Tree Sweaters? Doesn't keep me from reading The National Review and going to Mass.

The bills get paid, my toddler is clean and well fed and loved and cared for, the dog gets her heart worm meds and flea drops, I make cup cakes for the Moms club meetings, etc -- I dot my i's, cross my t's--and so do the scores of Yupsters and Grups that comprise my social circle--even if we can quote Star Wars verbatim or have Kool Aid colored hair whilst doing so.

I know a lot of suit-wearing "squares" who are completely irresponsible a-holes. Personally, I prefer to be a freak, albeit a responsible one. ;-)

You'll find PLENTY of baby boomers in t-shirts and jeans any day at the mall. You'll even find adults over 45 dressed down in some churches.

IN the 1980s ADULTS wore cloth jogging suits (including sweatpants) as a fashion statement (I'm into the "jogging
" craze and don't care HOW I look to you, I'm comfortable).

As long as you're doing it because it's what YOU enjoy, that's great!

What's not-so-great is when people age 35, 40 and beyond are still in teenager mode, dutifully following whatever silly fad comes along ... because it's what everyone else is doing. Understandable in teenagers, downright scary in middle-aged adults ;-)

And before anyone flames me, I realize that not all teenagers are mindless trend-followers; I just find said behavior a lot easier to understand in teens than in 40-year-olds :)

Uh huh and I'm right the opposite. I'm 51 and haven't found a place yet that I feel jeans, t-shirts and tennis shoes aren't appropriate .

Good for you. I like quirky people (I'm quirky) too. I don't understand the conservative mentality that all wingers have to be suit-loving squares who wear wingtips for fun.
