Kerry offers him the VP slot in 2004; and McCain takes a week to say no. Meanwhile he's working with his other big pals Kennedy and Feingold and Byrd (the gang of 14) against his own party.

Liberal Democrats love the guy - and that goes double for Chris Matthews.
