Planned Parenthood Abortion Centers Lure Teens With iPods, Movie Tickets
LifeNews ^ | March 30, 2006 | Steven Ertelt

San Francisco, CA -- Teenagers in the United States are having abortions in fewer numbers than at any time since Roe v. Wade and are more pro-life than older Americans. That means fewer customers for Planned Parenthood, but the abortion business has come up with a corporate marketing plan to lure teens with free iPods and movie tickets. Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, the center that gave teenager Holly Patterson the dangerous abortion drug that killed her, is leading the way with the new marketing scheme.

Anyone who makes an appointment at one of the eight PPGG centers before April 30, 2006, can enter to win an iPod.

A poster announcing another Planned Parenthood program, called “Tell-A-Friend,” includes a photograph of a teenage girl whispering into the ear of another teen and telling. The text of the ad reads: "Get free movie tickets? Yes. When you tell a friend about Planned Parenthood."

"These are some of the schemes Planned Parenthood is using to lure teenagers into its deadly facilities,” said Douglas Scott, president of Life Decisions International, a group that organizes boycotts of companies that contribute to the abortion business.

“Now which age group is most likely to be swayed by this kind of gimmick?” Scott asked. “This incentive is clearly aimed at young people.”

“Planned Parenthood has resorted to common corporate tactics in an effort to get young people to encourage their peers to voluntarily become the pro-abortion group's new victims," he said.

In the tell a friend campaign, teens are asked to obtain a special card at a Planned Parenthood center or download one from their web site. The promoter gets two free movie passes redeemable at any United Artist theater and the friend receives $10 off her first visit.

Other Planned Parenthood abortion businesses other than PPGG are using the campaign as well, including the Planned Parenthood ffiliate network in Colorado.

Scott said the cards are also offensive because they include graphics from a cartoon video PPGG produced calling for violence against pro-life advocates. A superhero in the cartoon asks abortion advocates to participate in the "elimination" of pro-life people and shoots them with a ray gun.

"Just like any other business, a key target group for Planned Parenthood is young people,” Scott said. "And once a teenager is hooked, he or she can prove to be a good source of income for many years to come.”

LDI is currently investigating to determine if United Artists donated the tickets to Planned Parenthood or if they were purchased by the group. The pro-life group has not yet called for a boycott of the movie theater company.

I just sent this to Apple:

"My daughter was just asking for an Ipod and I was considering purchasing it but after seeing the Ipod promotion at the Planned Parenthood web site I've reconsidered. It is just totally in bad taste regardless of your political persuasion and I'm surprised that Apple would allow such a politically explosive association to be made concerning one of its most popular products. I understand that Apple may not have complete control over such promotions but I’m sure Apple does have control over how such Promotions associate themselves with Apple products and their brand names."

Because there's huge demand for the services it provides (which are mostly providing contraception and STD screening), and because it would cost at least a thousand times more to fund the hordes of unwanted babies which would otherwise be born. I wish there was a less political organization providing these services -- PP promotes socialism almost as heavily as it promotes birth control -- but other than PP, there are only scattered local organizations that provide these services, and a lot of those are also fond of serving up socialist ideology along with medical services.

Would you rather those babies be dead?

Don't fall for the deliberately misleading articles published by LifeNews. PP is not giving out iPods in exchange for having abortions. They are using them to try to get teens into the clinics and onto contraceptives BEFORE they get pregnant -- trying to head off the "it won't happen to me" mentality that teens are prone to. I think it's kind of sleazy to use unrelated promotional giveaways like this, but it's NOT being used to persuade pregnant girls to get abortions.

So lets see,

here's someone who makes the decision to have an abortion based on the chance they might win an iPod, and we WANT them to become mothers ?

It's disgusting on many accounts--in fact, the very thought of this makes me want to vomit.

Giving away stuff that teens and young adults my age are obviously interested in.

Their reception of federal and state tax dollars to fund this Satanic marketing ploy.

Seeing them not as human beings, but as cash cows ripe to milk.

And as a 20 year old college student, I know enough people that will take this sick deal hook, line, and sinker.

They need to be stopped now. The obvious first step is to defund these sickos and without delay.

A lucky drawing to entice people to kill their babies. How nice. /s

A Professor is lecturing his class and states that:

"There are no absolutes. There is no black and white, only grey"

To which a student raises his and and asks,

"Are you absolutely sure?"

I get so sick and tired of this nonsense.

I have an acquaintance who has an absolutely beautiful 8 year old child.....a child that would probably not be around if it weren't for the compasionate people at Planned Parenthood.

It wasn't PP pushing her to get an abortion - it was the people employed by the state that hounded her to get an abortion. She refused to do it-------she was 16 at the time and had been raped.

I've been beat up here before regarding my stance on PP and other clinics and I am sure I will continue to be - I don't give a hoot. Some people are emotional, others are pragmatic.

If they abort early, yes, but I'd much rather they get these girls onto reliable contraceptives before to comes to that, and that's what they're trying to do. I live in NYC where an appalling number of children -- nearly all unwanted in the first place -- are being viciously abused, and all too often killed, and many more are simply being ignored, and grow up to join gangs and kill people. Social services are overwhelmed and safe foster homes are unavailable. Blathering about how nobody should have sex before marriage has nothing to do with reality on the streets of most of the medium and large cities in this country. Utterly unsupervised adolescents and teens, many born to utterly unsupervised adolescents and teens themselves, are breeding like feral cats, and are no more likely to heed prudish lectures than feral cats are. They might heed some contraceptive advice from someone who's giving them a free iPod, though -- sad, but true.

I'm no fan of PP. However, they are NOT enticing folks in for an abortion, as the article seems to imply. They seem to be trying to get them to come in use their "community" services for counseling on birth control & safe sex.

I'm not certain why they seem to care so much about building "floor traffic". I admit, it's gross if they are trying build relationships with young people if they only want to perform abortions, however I suspect the reality is more complex.

That's what LifeNews wants you to believe, but there's no indication in this article that there's any connection between getting an abortion and getting an iPod, and I can guarantee that there is no connection as it would open PP up to colossal liability which their malpractice insurers wouldn't tolerate for a second.

The dynamic for those "unwanted babies" would be no different than others. Some would do well and some would not but I think most of them would desire to be alive if given the option to consider the question. People would have to take responsibility for them. We have pay the wages of unwanted bureaucrats and dealing with 11 million illegal aliens a few more children would be a small cost in comparison.

I Was Yours

Momma don't cry, you didn't want to hold me.
Momma you've got pride,
No cries from my cradle,
Momma you're alive, why did you hate me?

You didn't even try,
When the Doctor came to take me.
Momma oh why, didn't you love me?

You didn't see my eyes, my fingers, my toes,
You never even saw my cute little nose,
Momma I was your little baby...

Did you look to your tummy when I was
inside? Did you feel my kick, when I was
alive? Momma I loved you, didn't you know?
I needed you Mommy, I needed to grow.

I needed your kisses; I needed your hugs,
I needed to feel, that I was loved.
You said it was your choice, that I must die,
That I wasn't really, really alive...

You weren't ready for me, but I had no
choice, you were my Mommy, I was yours.

Holly Patterson

The following testimonial was on the PPGG "shared stories" section, now removed toarchives ; found from this website:

From a long time happy customer who says that she first came to PP when, at 11 yrs old, her 17 year old boyfriend sexually assaulted her. Her wording is that of someone who has bought into the PP schtick hook, line, and millstone:

It Keeps Us Safe

I was raped at 11, by my 17 year old boyfriend. I chose not to tell my parents because I didn't think their involvement would help, that was the right choice for me. [emphasis mine] Planned Parethood helped me deal with the aftermath of the rape allowing me to deal and cope as best as I could in my own way. I was 14 when I decided to start having sex, the day I made that choice I made an appointment to get birth control pills. I'm 17 now, I've been with my current boyfriend for about two years. During that time i've been HIV and STD tested four times. Right now I'm sitting in the waiting room while my boyfriend gets the results for his HIV test. We love each other so we're responsible and Planned Parenthood helps us to do that.

- name withheld -

As noted in the article, PP is looking for long term victims, oops, customers.

The reality is that they're trying to familiarize large numbers of teenagers with the availability of contraceptives and STD screening. By luring a few dozen in with an iPod giveaway, they start conversations in the girls' social circles "Hey, see my new iPod!", "Cool, where'd you get it? How much was it?". Next thing you know, lots more girls than got iPods know where they can get contraceptives, and don't feel intimidated by the place, and probably have more specific and accurate information about contraceptive options thant hey had before. Looks a bit sleazy on the surface, but I expect it's being used in neighborhoods where nothing less sleazy would have much impact.
