House Candidate Draws Fire for Web Photo - Howard 'Special K' Kaloogian

SAN DIEGO - A congressional candidate is under fire for a Web site photo that purported to show a peaceful Baghdad neighborhood but was actually taken in a suburb of Istanbul, Turkey.

"We took this photo of Baghdad while we were in Iraq," the accompanying caption on Howard Kaloogian's Web site read. "Iraq (including Baghdad) is much more calm and stable than what many people believe it to be."

Internet bloggers began questioning the photo earlier this week because none of the signs was in Arabic and billboards were advertising Western products.

Kaloogian, a former state assemblyman who founded Move America Forward to support the war and is now running for Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham's House seat, took the photo down on Wednesday.

He said it was innocent mix-up that arose from a trip to Baghdad that he took last summer with Move America Forward. Some of the travelers went home through Istanbul, he said. The group pooled its photos, and his Web master mistakenly selected one of Istanbul, Kaloogian said.

"They used a picture that was wrong. There's nothing sinister about it," he said.

Kaloogian, a Republican, is one of 18 candidates seeking to replace Cunningham, who was convicted of bribery and conspiracy and sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison.

K was not successful while in the St. Leg. With his attitude he will be someones desert.
What it tells me, istead of supporting the top few GOP folks instead of pushing K as the only one, they are doing the work of the democrats. Maybe that is the idea.

If any district has a chance of electing a conservative, it would probably be the 50th with its majority of Republicans.

Logic would dictate supporting the frontrunner.
I can't bring myself to think anyone but the Dems are trying to divide the R votes on purpose.

K was not successful while in the St. Leg.

Really? From what I know, he was highly respected and effective.

Please cite some specific examples to support your contention, with sources.
(or is this unsupported smear just part of the Bilbray campaign?)

Norm, our posts crossed.

You won't find a single comment I've made against Howard.
I think the choice for the voters of the 50th is full of good men.

I would invite any of them to come down here and take on Filner!

So, you'll be throwing your support to Roach or Kaloogian then?
(I wouldn't vote for Roach if he was the last guy on earth, personally)

SurveyUSA, 03/28/2006

45% Busby (D)
14% Roach (R)
12% Kaloogian (R)
10% Bilbray (R)
5% Morrow (R)
5% Uke (R)
6% Other
3% Undecided

I knew Alan Uke when he was a cub scout. Can't vouch for him since then. :-)

I almost feel sorry for Roach.

He bears an uncanny resemblance to the actor who plays the weak and indecisive President on "24".

I knew Alan Uke when he was a cub scout. Can't vouch for him since then. :-)

That's funny. Were you a brownie at the time?

I don't feel sorry for him (not even almost).
Anyone who can't pick their business associates better is clueless, IMO.

At the time? An aspiring brownie. ;-)
I'm much younger than him. Well, okay, maybe not that much younger, lol.

Roach must have a huge war chest, he has so many ads saturating radio and TV.

Was he dishonest, or just a poor judge of character?

The photo incident does show that fake pix and inappropriate pix cannot just slide by any more. Actually it is a caution to anyone, on the left as will as the rest of us, that photoshopping and substitution will not get by free. It is a good thing. That said, this one will likely not do any damage if K can produce some properly labeled Baghdad pix.

that's why I love dualing with you and others, you twist and make little balloon doggys out of dang near anything. and then act like you're innocent of not abusing others and their comments for your own purposes.

show me where I have ever accused Tom of being a moderate. good God, are you that desperate to impugn me?

is it that personal a thing for some here that it has come to that? I am flattered. :)

Am I that effective ? Oh mY, I should start charging folks to read my posts if they are that dastardly.
